Cb750 engine case paint removal?
« on: July 17, 2016, 11:14:24 AM »
I am having trouble stripping the paint off of my engine cases. I have tried aircraft remover and regular paint stripper but nothing seems to affect it. I was wondering if any of you have some secrets that can help.

I have used Klean-Strip Strip-X. Apply it thick and let is sit for a bit.

Are you sure you are trying to remove paint and not powder coating?
Was the engine been painted buy a PO or does it appear to be factory?

I bought the engine case from a salvage yard and it appears to be the factory paint

The silver paint on the cases should come right off.
The factory clear coat on the side covers can be tough to remove, it's almost more like plastic than paint but I've been able to get it off with repeated applications of Strip-X.
Any safe-for-aluminum stripper that contains MEK should work, given time.

Thank you kindly for that, flybox1. Sincerely do appreciate it.

Example:

Yes, that's the same engine :-). And in answer to your next question, about $500, depending on exactly what you send and its condition. And I can cut your shipping cost down quite a bit. So be in touch if you want some help with that paint :-).

Hi, those do look great. Are those vapor blasted. If so i may be interested. All the vapor blasting companies ive contacted wont work on parts that have paint on them. Also you said you can cut down on shipping costs as well, should i pm you about this?

Yes indeed, those are vapor blasted.

I can't fathom why they might be so squeamish, it's no big thing unless it's epoxy paint or powdercoat, then it needs to be chemically removed. Yes, I'm happy to help you lower shipping costs, please visit my website, use the order form and upload a few good clear photos. I'll give you a firm quote. Pack up the parts and weigh and measure the boxes, relay that to me. I'll email you labels for about half of what you'd pay at retail. Drop at any UPS store or depot for free, done.

+1 on NobleHops vapor blasting, he did a complete motor for me. Came back fantastic looking!

The shipping charge to send it back to be was nearly half what I paid, so yes, he can save you money there too.
