Nightmare750
« on: July 06, 2016, 10:12:56 AM »
Among the MANY issues ive encountered with my 74k4, ive run into the issue of a hole being bored through my points cover from the inside. There doesnt seem to be any damage to the internals and nothing seems to telescope out easily. It has really been one thing after another and this is definitely stumping me. If anyone has seen or heard of this issue please give me a shout back.
Thanks!

I thought that hex head screw settled into a recess on the crankshaft nut?

Just a little a.d.Hey a squirrel!

All joking aside.  I dont know if the little bolt is supposed to stick out that far from the big crank nut.  On my 550 it sits close to flush.  No rub on points cover.

That's not a stock 750 point cover. I also notice the bottom rear post that holds the ignition plate is broken off. Place a straight-edge against the big "nut" and measure the distance to the engine case where the cover sits: It should be close to 1 inch. The small nut sticks out about .080-.100" above that.

Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

The small 10mm nut sit flush with the big 23mm nut on my CB750. Is the stud tightened?

The 'nut' in the posters picture looks more like a bolt head. See the screws holding the mounting plates are bolts also. Some previous owner mods going on there.

I've seen you post on this subject before BB, Dyna had a run of #$%*ty ignitions a few years back, there may well be a few still doing the rounds, they aren't all bad though, thousands using them  without problems... ;)

The biggest issue the OP has is the missing post that mounts the ignition plate, IMHO.
