Nils has been the best Since I first contacted him about this project. He's always been helpful even creating and sending me a video about the "dykes" and removing my kickstarter pin....ha-ha.

Always quick to reply and encouraging, and the guys work is just absolutely flawless. I will recommend anyone to go to him, I can't wait to see those Koni's when they're done....with the aluminum bodies all vapor blasted and the black springs.... going to be sick.

I've never dealt with Carpy on anything., seems like he knows his stuff but alot of his stuff is just not my style.

Wow, Nils! Blown away again!

I just saw that Carpy is getting into vapor blasting. Although more local, I'd still send out to Nils given his track record of performance and customer service.

But Don, Carpy invented the cafe racer movement in America and we all owe him everything for that.

Christmas in February looks like it will be coming tomorrow!!!!  Looks like most of my goodies will be coming home . I'll post up some photos of the kaboodle when I get them.

What an awesome guy Nils has been to work with, Could not be happier with the way this stuff turned out.....and I haven't even seen it yet!!!!!

Just wow with that cleaning.  Looks amazing.  I think I might need to send my stuff down to him as well. With the carbs did you send them down there whole and he broke them down? or did you break them down? 
Excuse me for my dumb questions....but if you do plan to paint it or thermal coat the cases, heads, and jugs....do you do that prior to rebuilding everything?  Do you have the loose steps in your head for the rebuild?
for example..
get the parts back
get the cases painted/thermal coated
reassemble the cases
get the jugs bored and then painted?
rebuild the heads and then painted?

I am just curious as to what your overall steps are.  I am in a similar situation with breaking down a '76 750F.  Just trying to time everything right on my end

Thank you Calj737 for the thermal coating pics.  I would love to find someone local to me able to do this sort of process.  I really do not want to paint my engine...would rather have it powder coated or thermal coated...

   Glad you like the photos, and I got all my parts back last night.....They're 10x better in person, just absolutely amazing work on Nils' part....Super fast turn around time and he's been a Huge help along the way.

As far as the carbs, I tore them completely down when I sent out all the parts to him, so every part inside was broken down....as far as the linkage, I sent that and the choke linkage out there assembled.....There are some reasons you don't want to Completely dis-assemble the carb linkage (little stud in the rod, and something else that I can't remember. Theres really no reason to 100% break down the stay plate/linkage too. He cleaned that up as well and it's beautiful

I'm thinking after Cal's suggestion, to look into the thermal coating for my cylinders (maybe the head too). But as far as the cases, I'm going to run them for a while as they are....The finish is beautiful and with a little work (Cleaning and such) Nils has assured me they can be kept up very nicely. Maybe down the road if they're nasty (talking years from now) I'll have them cleaned up again or painted...

I have gone over the motor build 10 times already on all my assembly.....First step is going to be going through the cylinder stud holes with a "thread chaser/repair" tool per Nils' recommendation.... The threads are perfect as is but just to make sure as I'm going to be installing the APE HD studs and Main bearing Studs as well.

I have all the bearings for the rods and crank (which was balanced by Mike Rieck), so that will be sweet. I am going to look into getting new bearings for the trans while i'm in there.... The bearings that came out are literally perfect so I'm going to keep them for a future project....

Let me know if you have any questions on anything, I have 100% of the parts for the new motor (bolt kits, bearings, cam, tensioners, new HD Chains, etc) so I'm good to go.

There is an amazing thread on the forum by "BrandEn" about re-building a "leak free" top end , I would check it out as he has some awesome info/tips in there. Best of luck on the project. Give me a shout with Questions.

I'd taste that rainbow all day and night. Haha.  I know I'm slacking on the photos fellas,.. here's a few... id put these up in a cleanest set of cb750 carbs contest... I have all brand new internals for theses babies too fresh from Japan.... Honda needles and needle jets, mains - 120, pilots 40, float valves and seats, all new Honda rubbers, etc.

With the stay plate and choke linkage all cleaned up.... there will literally be brand new!!! Wohoo!

Carbs look beautiful. So I talked with a thermal coater locally and he said even if I did send parts to get vapor blasted that he would still want to clean them and prep them to take the thermal coating. Sounds like I do plan to thermal coat my cases, block, and head. Where'd you source your carb parts for the rebuild? I am shocked how good looking they are.

Hey Fellas, Glad you like it...Going to look sweet with the new brass in there...

Ruckus, One never reveals his sources....... EXCEPT TO SOHC FORUM MEMBERS... ha-ha. If you need carb internals (which they rarely wear out, but with all the work i put into these i figured what the heck)... You can get them on Yamiya (straight outta japan)..... Also, some local places will have them, some of the Honda parts houses (or JT Marks on Ebay has a heavenly amount of NOS honda stuff).

I've heard/read that the K&L kits are supposed to be pretty good also....THey're made in Japan as well (supposedly closest to OEM ??) But i've never used them first hand, I usually just use the soft parts from those type of kits (had issues with Keyster jets in the past).

Nils, is the man, I'll post up some new photos shortly guys.

Also, Anyone familiar with using a "thread clean-up kit" or something on the stud holes? Mine are perfectly clean and none are stripped but NIls recommended it..... I have 8 x 1.25 taps but wasn't sure if it's something different? Want to make sure everything goes together well, BrandEn's top end re-build thread is pretty good.

I bought this set of metric 'thread-chaser's from MSTC up in Wakefield, MA. a couple yrs. ago and they are very reasonable for the set.They go from 6mm-12mm;the good thing w/ them is they don't remove any metal or cut(over-cut  :o) new threads,just clean the dirt out of the threads and straighten damaged threads out to make them useful.

Hey Guys, hope everyone is doing well. I've been slacking big time on the build thread getting the bikes ready for the season. However I received a second pack of skittles and another box from Phoenix the other day.... and Nils does it again... these puppies are going on the bike for sure!!!

Aluminum bodied KONI 7610 "D" Special 's fresh from a complete rebuild and overhaul.... a bit of vapor blasting has these shocks looking better than new!!!

Will post some more updates shortly. Appreciate all the support.

Hey Blac and Joe, THanks fellas.... Yeah the shocks came out amazing.... couldn't be happier and Nils is a super awesome guy.

Joe as far as the motor, I highlighted all the upgrades/mods at the beginning of the thread but it's going to be a Wiseco 836cc for the bore, Head was completely re-done by Mike Rieck (JMR Porting) , stage 2+ porting with Oversize intake valves (new exhaust valves also), HD APE Springs, New early style keepers (69-76 style), Cast iron Guides, the whole schebang.... Webcam 63A, Cycle X super rods on a balanced crank with all new rod and main bearings....HD Primary and Cam chains with new tensioners, APE Clutch pack, APE Cylinder studs and also APE HD Main bearing studs..... It's basically going to be a very hopped up brand new motor...... let me know if you have any questions..

I checked out your build also, looking solid man!!! These bikes are so much fun, i absolutely love my stock 78K but man this is going to be a BEAST!!!!

Thanks for the clarification and the good words. I must've confused you're thread with the JMR Billet block thread. You have a very solid build. That 836 is going to scream!
These bikes are a blast. It's surprising how much fun you can have on an almost 40 year old cb. At least 50 smiles per gallon... 😎

Do you have any plans to have the stator rewound? I assume you have all new electrical parts coming in and just haven't gotten to that part of the build yet. I also do not know what sort of power it out put you want. Just kind of curious with your alternator/stator plans as you put this all back together.
