I do not have any fancy tools to measure stretch or in lbs.  Can someone recommend a tool to do this?  Maybe I should just take it to the machine shop?

Micrometer. Most guys probably just torque them and call it a day. I'm one of those 'low tech' guys LOL.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

I use a micrometer and a ball bearing in the dimpled end of the CARR bolts. Take your time and measure the bolts first & jot it down. I always torque to spec first than "adjust by stretch" Bit goofy with the bearing but it's the only way I could think of without a proper guage.

Thanks guys!  I think I am leaning on just paying to have the whole assembly as it is worth the peace of mind.  I will only be doing this one anyhow.

I talked to my machine guy and he said he could torque to inch pounds.  Not sure he is going to bother with torque measure, torque measure which seems to be the right way to do things.

Other poster have said the lightened crank is worth it so mine as well get the whoe shabang at once and be done with it.

 I did stretch on a chevy race engine and I went so far past the torque spec it was scary. Never had a problem though.

I did stretch on a chevy race engine and I went so far past the torque spec it was scary. Never had a problem though.

That had to be nerve wracking to say the least.  If the purpose of buying HD rods / bolts is peace of mind maybe I should just leave this one to the pros.
