Having issues finding parts
« on: July 24, 2016, 02:17:06 PM »
Hi all, I just bough a 1979 cb650 that need a fair amount of work. My question is, are there interchangeable parts from other models/ years? If heard that most of the parts are not... but the guy didn't sound to sure of that . It needs full exhaust for sure ... and a lot of odd little stuff like the rubber mount for the tank.
Thanks

1979 has a different head than the 81-82, as well as different carbs/ rubber manifolds and different exhaust spacing if I'm not mistaken. Other than that I believe everything is the same. The rubber tab at the back of the tank is special to the cb650's but I believe the two rubber pucks at the front of the gas tank are the same for cb750's and 650's (maybe even 550's but I may be mistaken). The engine is swap-able with cb550 though.

CMSNL.com

Use this site and the fiche/partslist for your model to locate the part number.
Use a little Google-fu and search the part number.  (ie HONDA #####-###-###)
Sites will come up, like partzilla.com
Partzilla is nice as it will also list all the bikes that part was used on at the bottom of the page  ;)
