After a couple of hours of steady testing, nothing unusual has shown up. The transistors generate less heat than anticipated, which is always good, and the power resistor is the only hot object, which won't hurt anything, and will help keep the enclosure dried out. Back-EMF is on the order of 270v peak with Honda coils (haven't made up a DYNA coil setup yet), which is about 67.5% of the rating of the worst-case parts. Ought to last a long time.

I've ordered some enclosures to attempt a nice package. I'll post the progress here. The enclosures measure about 4" long by 2" wide by .85" thick. I used to have mine mounted back under the taillight (the holes are still in the fender!), so I'll see how this new box fits there, and will show some pix of that, too. It might be possible to make the case a little smaller, depending on the cases available.

The hookup scheme will be: power wire will plug in at the coils' junction (black wires in Honda harness), then a yellow wire and blue wire will connect to the coils where they now plug into the points plate wiring. Those points wires will then connect to the new module's "trigger" wires and a ground wire will go into the points plate area and ground at one of the condensors or on a points plate mounting screw. The condensors are then disconnected. I'll try to figure out how to show that here.

Ha ha, no worries Charlie, I went to the V8 supercars at Phillip Island to watch poor bloody Lowndsy get shafted by P-Rick Kelly on Sunday, and it was 42.1 deg C (108 deg F for our American friends)in the shade, but if you know Phillip Island, there is no f*cking shade!

The Jack Daniels "Virtual Distillery" van thing was doing a roaring trade, as it was airconditioned inside, but there were no free samples, and the bastards kept kicking me out for licking the pictures? Hell, lucky for them their whiskey is just about the best thing I've ever had in my mouth, or I wouldn't have gone quietly...............

Do you need some condensors? I've probably got some in a box somewhere? :)

Hey, Terry, wonder if you can help out, here. As you can see form the attached pix, it's not going to be possible to ride here in Colorado anytime soon, and I could use some roadtest assistance. How about if I send one to you and you test it out for a while? I'll send instructions on how to hook it up and how to "revert" if it fails on the side of the road somewhere. I can test on a bench for months, but the real thing is always better...

I'M HERE, SO PISSS OFF CHARLIE, YOU FRICKIN' VULTURE !!!!! ;D

Ha ha, sorry for not replying earlier Mark, I've been drunk in "Banjo Country" for the last two days, but I'm back at work now, and coincidentally, am about to put my K1 "Power-Kruiser" on the road, next week!

This is ideal actually, as I was about to steal the Dyna S and 3 Ohm coils off my K2 for this bike, but now that you've got the proto-type for me to test, I'm in!

The "Power Kruiser" engine is a reconditioned CB750K2 bottom end with new 2nd oversize OEM pistons, Mike Rieck Stage 3 cylinder head, Megacycle 125/75 cam, HD RC Engineering cylinder studs, M3 Racing Cam Chain tensioner assembly, Tsubaki cam chain, 29mm CR carbs, HD clutch plates and springs etc, so your ignition will be tested under a variety of conditions, from "riding around town like an old moll" to "scraping everything around the corners" to a fair bit of "Stoplight drag racing" and even a few "flat out" laps of the famous "Phillip Island" Race Circuit in 3 weeks time when me and Andre go there for the 2007 "Phillip Island Classic".

The weather here in Oz is considerably warmer than that in your pics mate, so just what we need for some effective testing, and I'll be riding a lot over the next few weeks, so I'll be able to rack up a lot of miles in the process.

I don't know if you've still got my address Mark, but if not, it's:

Terry Prendergast
23 Bowman Drive
Mill Park
Victoria 3082
Australia

Let me know how much money to send you mate, and your paypal address, and I'll zip it over to you right away! Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

No worries Charlie, I'm not a real beer drinker, I drink it, but I'd prefer a Bourbon, but all Geoff had was Crownies? Oh well, it was a stinking hot day and his beer was icy cold, so when in Rome, and all that, ha ha! Seriously though, I'd love to have a drink with you, next time I'm in Sydney I'll catch up with all my "Northern Cousins"! ;D

Boys, boys! There'll be plenty to go around - after Terry makes sure it runs!

Thanks, Terry, that's just what I'm lookin' for: wide-range testing. You have more opportunity for this that I do now.

You might find that you have to install new points to get the 7000+ RPM range to run smooth. It runs to 16,000 RPM on the bench, but those are perfect conditions.

The points, when new, come with a protective, oily coating on them that you must clean off with some sort of contact cleaner that leaves no residue. Usually, this oil would burn off in short order with normal use, but with this system there will not be enough current on the contacts to burn that stuff off, so you gotta do it by hand. This is the "mystery" area of this amplifier. It supplies 5% of the normal current to the points so they will last: old, used points might not let this small current pass through. But, if you start with new ones, they should last until the rubbing block falls off! It might turn out that I have to raise this current value to 10% or 20% of normal to get the performance we want, especially with DYNA coils (I used Honda coils on my old ones). If you (or someone nearby) can do electronic mods at your place, I can guide you through those steps, if we have to go there.

The enclosures and circuit boards should be here in about 1-2 weeks, so I'll keep you posted. It will only take 2 evenings to build and document this first one after that.

Thanks for your help: if it all works, then you can pay me, how's that?

Hey Thanks Mark, that's excellent! I've got a brand new OEM points plate assembly in a box, so that's no problem, and if any electrical adjustments are required, I have an old electronics technician working for me, he's a pretty smart old guy, he built me an exhaust gas analyser, so I'm sure he'll be able to understand your instructions mate, no worries! If you'd like me to be your Australian distributor like we did with the fuel tank cap hinge pin kits, let me know! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Since the setup is anticipated to be sensitive to slightly dirty breaker points, does this mean it is likely to quit working as the points accumulate some "grunge" in normal service, or if they get slightly damp in a downpour?  Now THAT would be a bummer!

yeah terry , make sure you do a lot of testing in a downpour.  I am also wondering how it does while the rider is being chased by dingos, while wearing a sundress and an eye patch.  if there's time, see how far into the ocean you can run it before it shorts.  i think anything short of that owuld be taking advantage of mark's offer.  dont you?

and mark, it is still very ridable in baltimore, so there is no need to ship to australia to test your inventions- on a 550k1 at least.

man that was some good hondaman pole.
