Front suspension upgrade
« on: July 19, 2016, 02:42:46 PM »
Looking to upgrade my front suspension and braking power while at the same time reducing some weight on my Hi-Po build.  So the dual disc brake mod on the stock forks won't do it.  I still want to keep the look of the forks somewhat period correct and use a set from a 03/04 CBR since they don't have inverted forks.  So my question is will I be able to still use the original spoked wheels?  Will the hubs match up to new rotors?

What new rotors?  From CBR?  No, they will not.

I can get a complete set of forks and triples with calipers for a steal from the 600rr forum.  Looks like the hub will be the most expensive part of it, but I won't need a new stem for the triples.  Thanks for the info!

The fork will likely interfere with the tank too; isnt CBR fork wider than CB?

You misunderstand: mating the new stem and triples to the stock CB can be the issue. The stock CB steering bearings may differ in ID than the CBR donor. And vice-versa. AllBallz sells tapered steering bearings that mix-match non stock setups. They're cheap but invaluable and they are an upgrade to the stock ball bearings that are 40 years old in your bike.
Oh I understand.  I looked up the bearings that would be required for this setup, 03 forks on 750 frame.

You are already covered, but another good option if you want conventional forks (but lighter weight) is a slightly older Yamaha R6 (up through 2004).

That would be ideal if I could find them for a decent price, but I found a local set of 03 gsxr forks for $140.  Hopefully the forums will turn up something.

Well there could be a clearance issue with those forks, looks like I would only be able to use the stock r6 wheel since the calipers are mounted as far in as possible.
