Deep respect to our heroes, not too many left.
However, two seat Spitfire, is taking one of the most beautiful planes ever, and beating it with ugly stick senseless. It should be illegal.

I've seen other 2 seater spitfires, I'm sure they were trainers, definitely not as pretty as the regular spitfire... ;)...

It may not look as good as a regular Spitfire but the Merlin V-12 still sounds awesome.

Being an old Merlin mechanic hearing them start rises the hair on my neck and brings tears to my eyes and I think of things that might have been.

Back in 2006 I went to the Kalamazoo Air Zoo museum with my wife. They have a good collection of WW2 planes along with modern jets and my all time favorite plane, the SR-71 Blackbird.

While looking at one of the planes, a P-40 Warhawk. This little old man who was a docent comes up and asks us if we have any questions and then tells us about the plane. Then he gets to the coolest part, it was HIS plane. He was its pilot during WW2. I would imagine that he is gone now, what what a great experience to talk to an actual WW2 pilot who flew bomber escorts and even survived getting shot down over France.

There is an interview on the Beeb with the bike/scooter driver that went after the murderous truck driver he was a hero in that he stepped up and was counted he saw something needed to be done and tried, probably saved lives, threw the driver off his game but he doesn't think he's a hero just trying to do a job. Good Man that.

Very true, only these guys had to escape from Czechoslovakia after it was occupied by germans - usually sneaking across border mountains, many more stayed home, but some choose to leave the Protektorat and fight in Poland, than France and last in the UK.

Also they were technically german subjects - means they were not considered POWs, but domestic terrorist, RAF uniforms or not.

And after the war communists put them in jail, because they fought the germans in the West, not in the East. These pilots were fully rehabilitated after 1989, not sooner.

Sorry for the long rant :)
