Topic: Used Brakleen on Rotor - now front brake wont stop - Help?

Hi! 

Very stupid question.  But i used some Brakleen on the rotor of my front brake on a cb750 K5 and now when i try to brake it just slows down very very slowly.  Before this it worked just fine - of course i had to mess with it.  My question is before i tear apart the caliper and the rotor ect - is there any suggestions to maybe get this working again or do i need to make sure theres not something wrong with my pads now?

Go try doing some gentle stops in a safe area.  You might be able to cook off whatever is causing the issue. 

I have that with my rear disc brake (F2 model) after I clean the bike for a few stops.  Once the heat comes up in the pads it's back to normal.

I might have gotten some of the brakleen on the pads itself.  Would that cause any problem?

Brakleen should evaporate and leave nothing behind. It should not hurt the pad or rotor. Possible the brakleen leached some lubricant you may have put in the caliper for the pad down onto the pad or rotor. Cant think of any reason brakleen would affect it. Do it all the time at work to clean out brake dust.

That stuff is murder on paint. If you sprayed it liberally on the rotor including near the caliper there is a good chance you melted some caliper paint and it has fouled the pads. 

Unbolt the caliper and remove the pads and inspect. If you find glazed gooey stuff it's likely paint.  Put a sheet of 80 grit sandpaper on a 1/4" sheet of glass and figure 8 on that to expose fresh pad material. But if the glazed goo is on the sides and has really fouled them you'd be best off replacing them.

Hard lesson learned if this is the case, you can probably guess how I learned it too.

Spray down with some alcohol then go to an empty lot and do some long slow dragging stops. It'll get rid of any residue/oils that was left. I find  have to do this.

Hit the rotor with some emory paper, too.  Both sides.

I hit the Alcohol and wrote her second, was a big mistake.
