Honda cb650 interchangeable carb kits?
« on: July 18, 2016, 12:18:36 PM »
Hello folks!
I'm new around here and I have some questions. So I have a 1980 Honda cb650 custom, it starts and runs decently but I would like get a carb kit (4 of em) and redo the carbs. My only dilemma is that I can't find carb rebuild kits for the 650 custom. I can find them for the 650 and for the 650 nighthawk but not the custom. So will the carb kit from the standard 650 work on the 650 custom? Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

CMSNL has both the '80 CB650 and the '80 CB650C carbs as the same part number. I would assume that you could use the same rebuild kits but I don't know these bikes too well.

It's a good idea to keep the brass (jets, emulsion tubes, needles and float needles) you have and clean them up with wire, carb cleaner and compressed air rather than use the brass that's in the kits. The brass that the kits come with are of lesser quality and without the tight tolerances of OEM. The rubber bits and gaskets are fine to use as long as they're fuel resistant. Besides, the brass is rarely damaged, just clogged.

The 80 CB650C Custom used the PD50 mechanical carbs the same as the standard CB650. Any carb kit for the 79-80 CB650 will work.

There was a seller on ebay that had a deal on 4 kits for approx $50.

Here is the link

As Dave mentioned. Use the original brass, and jets. Use the gaskets, seals from the kits.

Thanks for all the help. I needed to find the float needle valves but my Honda dealer quoted me $32 for each. YIKES! So I was considering getting the full kit. But as far as I know all my seals and gaskets are good. None of them leak or anything so i will be able to get just the needle valves from Partsnmore for a reasonable price.
Thanks again for the advice!

You might want to try PMing member Harisuluv. He's the go to guy on all things carbs and sells parts and rebuild services. He might have what you're looking for.
