750K2 Clutch myestry
« on: July 19, 2016, 09:09:02 AM »
So first off I would like to say thank you to all the members on here providing a endless amount of useful information.  I have been following the forum for years and until now have always been able to find the answers I was looking for.

I am really confused about a possible clutch issue I just experienced.

I rode my K2 in the morning on Sunday, everything was fine, parked it for a few hours and went to head back out.  As I let the clutch out to leave my house it acted like the clutch was slipping badly, it barley wanted to moved the bike forward.  Thinking I was in the wrong gear (even tho the engine never bogged down) I made sure I was in first and tried again.  This time I had no movement.  I proceeded to check my cable adjustment and all seemed okay.  Tried to take off again and just seemed like the bike was in neutral.  So now I wonder if I somehow fried the clutches.  I remove the basket and measure friction plates and springs (all well within spec and the friction material looks in great shape).  I only use Honda 10w40 so oil shouldn't be an issue and was just changed a couple months ago less than 100 miles also.

So here is my confusion, I  hope I am missing something very simple.  First off with the clutch cover removed the clutch has no choice but to be engaged, right?  So with that being said, if I put a wrench on the end of the main shaft in the middle of the clutch pack (in gear) the rear wheel moves even when applying some resistance.  Then if I rotate the crank shaft, the clutch pack will spin, but the rear wheel will not move at all.  I had removed and reassembled the clutch pack and all looks normal.  Any thoughts or prayers are greatly appreciated as I think my next move will be opening the engine case to see whats happening inside.

Also attached is a horrible picture of the bike in question.
Thank you

So there in no confusion, the clutch lifter plate and springs were all in place while turning the crankshaft by hand.

*update*

I found the inner clutch basket had moved too far apart and didn't seat back into the outer basket half all the way.  Looking at the clutches I didn't see anything visually out of place, however when the lifter plate was removed and then rotating things a bit, it slid back into place.  Now, just need to figure out how this happened.  Possible something is missing letting it be too loose.

Also here is a better photo of the girl

Completely different bikes.  The new one if smooth, brakes are phenomenal, glides over bumps and has loads of power.  The only thing I don't like about the new one is the seat is horrible, but I think that can be said for almost any stock seat.  I do wish I waited a year and got the six speed trans, dual exhaust and wire spoke wheels.  But I do love it. Especially since my wife bought it for me for Christmas.

The old one feels like a rocket ship because it has a different riding position with the clubman handle bars and the exhaust is crazy loud, but I know the new one is quicker.  I love the old one for cruising around town etc. but for riding the highway into work, the new one is the choice.

They are both great for separate reasons.  I love seeing all of them sit together sharing the frame design and similarities of tanks etc.
