Topic: Starter relay click or bad stater motor?

So to start off my bike is a 83 cb650...the battery is fully charged and won't even start with a jump either...when I try to start it  ( kill switch off and bike in neutral) the bike just goes click... I determined he sound to come from the starter relay it's self but can't seem to start it unless I pop it into 2nd... The starter motor isn't spinning or turning over so I'm not sure if it's locked up or if it's the relay? Any help please

if you feed the motor direct from battery and still not work, the motor must be kaputt. Or its brushes that need to be replaced.

Pop it into 2nd? Does the starter motor work then?
Clicking solenoid switch suggests it, the motor, or the high current cabling as bad...
Did you try with the clutch lever pulled in? May be a starter safety circuit problem - clutch switch or neutral switch might enable starter.
You can cross the big terminals (studs with fat wires) on the solenoid with a screwdriver to test the motor - if that makes it crank, motor is OK so look at the the solenoid and its control wiring.

Engine is good I can start and ride the bike if I pop start it into gear

Also just connected battery straight to starter and nothing...yes with the key on the on position

Starter motor needs attention. Once they get to where they don't work at all they can be unrepairable, wearing the brushes right down usually damages the commutator. Worth a look: the brushes are easy to inspect and the whole thing comes apart without much trouble.

Ok I'll pull the starter motor off then what? The 2 bolts hold the casing on?
