Topic: Smoking on start up...

With the onset of colder weather the bike has been sitting a bit more than in the past couple of months.  I have noticed a bit of smoke (white / grey) coming out of the left exhaust but it goes away after a warm up.  Any thoughts?

From what I've read it's not uncommon. Mine does it... a little bit of white smoke for a few minutes...
(It's usually done smoking before I am  )
but clears up and runs great once it gets warmed up!

Several people on here have said that they think thier SOHC runs better in the cold weather.
Seems the same to me, but I wonder if there's any actual facts to this or if it's just our imaginations.

Most of what you see coming out of the exhaust on a cold day when the engine is cold is water vapor.  There may also be a little oil getting past the valve guides while it sits.  That will burn off quickly.  If your oil consumption isn't excessive, I wouldn't sweat it.

thanks... I've also heard that leaving it sit on the side-stand will not allow oil to drain down all the way.  Anyone else ever heard this one?

Cold Dense Air equals a happy air cooled engine

My bike loves the cold air, runs great in the summer heat, but seems to grunt a bit more in the winter.

P.S. I have never noticed any smoke, white or otherwise.  Lucky me I guess?
