What are the best high dollar shocks
« on: August 28, 2016, 08:27:32 AM »
So i'm thinking of upgrading my shocks the ones i have on now are great for just ridding around and city ridding but I don't love them when ridding hard and fast. any one use these before? https://cognitomoto.com/collections/suspension/products/fox-podium-rc1-rear-shocks

Or have any other kinda they like or dislike?

If you choose Fox shocks, you need to use the longer length unit for ample preload spacing.

YSS and Works also make very good options.

Check here. I posted more info on the Fox Podium RC1 shocks on Do The Ton.

The Fox and Works and YSS are all really fine, high-spec non-emulsion shocks, and the remote piggyback reservoir is great for cooling the shock fluid and preventing fade. All of those are also adjustable for both compression and rebound damping, preload, and possibly even ride height. I use Wilbers on both ends of my BMW and they are fantastic, and rebuildable and I have never regretted purchasing them.

All that said, I personally think these shocks are overkill on a SOHC Honda for anything but a true high performance application, and I think they look out of place many times. They are also going to be a huge mismatch for the fork damping wise, and the fork may pogo when the rear is quiet and well damped.

I think a middle-of-the road shock is going to be a big improvement, for half the cost of these high end shocks, and a better match for your fork.

Thanks.. Yeah I have ikons on my BMW and I'm not saying my bike is at "race" standers by any means but it's up there gsxr front end and lots of other stuff so I'm looking for a little more from my shocks. I like works and yss we shall see if I can make it happen soon.

Well there you have it: if you have a GSXR front end then I'd agree you are a candidate for a high end shock.

My CB750 K6 has IKONs. setting 2,2. Work fine. I had Marzoochi AG STrada before and IKON was not a downgrade what I can recall.
IKON for the almost OEM look. I could have restored the old ones.

I like Hagon's. Right over $200.00 for a pair, I think for the money, they are the best pound for pound shock for these bikes. I also think they look fantastic. Warning: this is a very subjective question lol

Looks like next time I'll make sure to have a better title seems like people may not read the full question and thread haha. I'm only talking high end shocks here. I know and have used a lot of the "lower" dollar ones and yes they are great Ikon, Progressive and others I'm looking for a more race/Aggressive shock.
