If you did not have a Honda, what brand would you buy?
« on: July 26, 2016, 02:46:03 AM »
Hi All,
just curious. If I didn't have a Honda motorbike this is what I would have (and if I also had the money).
http://www.benelli-motor.cz/motocykly/benelli-tnt-899
or a Triumph Speed Triple

I've had a bunch of XS650's (great bike but very different from the smooth fours), a Kawasaki ZRX 1100 (another amazing machine....GOBS of power), and currently have a BMW Airhead and a Tiger Xc in the garage.
I get the BMW mystique, but I'd also like to try out a newer one that had been better taken care of. And by that, I mean, if mine is this good, what's a really nice one like?

And the Tiger is just bad ass. I can only imagine what a Speed Triple is like.

Funny you ask.  When we moved to States, I knew what bike I would get if I ever start riding again - KLR650.  I was impressed by the fact that they are making it since 87 or so.

And than friend gave me Dorothy and I never looked back, haha.

But I would love to have Honda Transalp:

Guzzi! Qwerky but I love them. Probably a newer V7 just cause it's has a classic look.

For longer rides probably a BMW F700GS kitted up with plug in suit and gloves.

If I could find a decent shop in the area I would probably go back to Triumphs.

My experiences with BMW to date are that the bikes simply demand too much attention in terms of care and maintenance

I'm not and never have been brand loyal. I've had them all in 40 years. My current rides; A 2014 Triumph Trophy SE with 40,000 miles on it. A 2003 Honda Reflex scooter with 30,000, and my reason for being here is my 1981 Honda CB650 Custom with 15,000. My wife has a Kymco 150 scooter to putt around town on. If you get Motorcyclist magazine you will see my 650 on page 19 of the September issue  ;D

After seeing Kenny Roberts racing on the track at Loudon on a RD/RZ350 Yamaha I always wanted one. Never happened, other than the 2 crash bikes I had...

I ride my XS650 daily. Love that thing. Working on an RD350, and a BMW R60/2 right now. GT750 going on a lift when one of the first two are off of one. I love my Hondas, but I'm not particularly brand loyal. All have their pluses and minuses.

A new bike, I'm eyeing a BMW R Nine-T. See how much coin I have left when we get done buying a new milling center, tooling it up, a few acres and building a new shop this fall.

I am all over the place.

If I were going to buy a big twin, modern or vintage, an Indian Chief without hesitation.

I would love a K2 (or however Kawasaki does it) version of the GPz1100, the one with the frame mount 3/4 fairing.

A vintage R100RS would hit the spot.

I love what Triumph did with the new Thruxton R.

The Royal Enfield Continental GT.

My vintage Brit twin pick would be a Royal Enfield Interceptor followed by a Norton 750 or 850 Commando.

Really i could probably easily name 50 bikes I would love to own given a very large budget.
