GD pods
« on: July 23, 2016, 08:53:42 PM »
3x since I bought this bike I have been caught in the rain and 3x the bike eventually died on me when the filters got saturated. Sometime in the next couple weekends I have to install the OEM setup. I don't ride in the rain by choice, but when it happens I want it to keep running.

It's a shame really because otherwise the bike runs beautifully.

Do you have an inner fender? The rooster tail of water that flies off the rear tire gets things wet in a hurry without one. ;)

Everything gets wet in a hurry when you're riding in the rain

I have had decent results with UNI foam in a HA breadbox in the rain.  It didn't run perfect after getting wet, but it ran...so maybe try UNI pods?  If they are K&N pods, maybe try cleaning and oiling.  Oh, and you are making LESS power than the stock airbox with all of the above
If it works good, it looks good...

I've ridden my 750 with K&N's in torrential rain, with no issues. (well, my OEM plug leads were arcing against the frame, but I replaced them with Dyna's, with no more problems) The K&N's have a light coating of filter oil, which might be why they're not affected by rain, but I recently saw some waterproof pods that might be even better? Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

On my Seeley I run pods inside a modified formerly-stock airbox. You may want to give that some thought?

The pods are just what came on the bike when I bought it. Personally I think the side covers and stock airbox look just fine. Since I have just been riding around town avoiding rain isn't generally an issue. Yesterday my car was out of commission and the riding was out of necessity, so naturally it rained.

I've been let down by rain and pods a few times. One time Danny was when I followed you guys to Hastings on the Godzilla run when you stayed at my house in the 'little bed'. One the way home for me the skies opened up and I got douched, even the wallet was totally soaked. Had to stop at a covered gas station to dry the pods somewhat and them made an 'airbox' from a free car advertisement magazine I pulled of the box.  Better than the time I was on I-94------------------

The problem in the rain isn't the pods, it's the lack of an inner fender. How else can the water get past your legs and the seat? Without some sort of inner fender, even a stock airbox would be subject to a spray of water, and some would get drawn into the filter.

K+N pods seemed to work, if it was out overnight in rain I would try to cover the two outer ones.
Whayt yours are doing sounds just like what would happen to my CB350 if I got the stock paper filters wet at the car wash.
Solution, pull yours off till you can get them dry.
