Hey guys. My cam chain tensioner is F'd and it's been suggested to me by a couple people I trust that I'd be better off buying a new one. So far I've found two outfits, both out of Germany, that sell new cam chain tensioners for the CB550's. They're roughly $200. Really? Is that the going rate for one of these things? I know, the bikes are old, it's a niche product, etc, etc...but still wow :(

This one is obviously an aftermarket, reproduction product as it says so in the description. http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb550k3-four-germany_model14674/14500-323-010-tensioner_14500323000/#.V5fidJMrLok

This one I'm not sure whether it's NOS or some aftermarket thingy. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-CB-550-Four-K0-K1-K2-K3-K4-Steuerkettenspanner-Tensioner-Cam-Chain-New/291742518179?_trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D35375%26meid%3Ddf00cbc833354184be616805209412ea%26pid%3D100033%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D291742518179

You guys have any suggestions on where else to look?

Check David Silver Spares USA website (not their UK site).  They sell the individual guide and tensioner blades to replace your worn items.  These items are not too expensive.  If you buy a complete OEM tensioner it will cost you an arm and a leg, but a complete unit is not necessary unless yours is chewed up.  Another option is to buy the wear blades and a used tensioner on ebay.

Cafe Racer Fan, Of course I should've checked David Silver Spares. DUH! I appreciate the links man. But the part that I need is the hardware inside the tensioner, the part is attached to the spring. And yes, it's chewed up  :-\ The blade itself won't do me any good and my guide is in pretty good shape. I think I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and spend the money. I'm glad to know I can buy from someone in the states though. Thanks again.
