I don't know much about this 1981 KZ550 that I acquired a few days ago but I could pass up a great deal. I was scoping out deals on my local Craigslist like I usually do on a daily basis and came across an ad for FREE parts for a CB500 twin and a CB750. In the ad the guy mentions briefly that he had two project bikes as well. I tried calling the number he had posted and got a dial tone for a fax machine. I emailed him through the craigslist ad and he contacted me shortly after. Long story short I went to pick up the free parts that he had advertised and I asked to see what his project bikes were. He brought me down to the basement of his San Francisco house and he had 3 bikes. One was a 1975 CB750F supersport and the other was a 1981 KZ550 that was his wife's bike. He asked me to help him take the bikes out of his dungeon of basement. WE had to literally lift the bikes over a large threshold. After about 30 minutes we got them out of his basement and I asked how much he wanted for them. He said "nothing. You can have them for free". He basically wanted them out of his basement. The third bike was a rare kawasaki 2 stroke that he was going to restore. The CB750F was in fair condition and was cafe'd out (forks dropped, pods, and clubman bars). It had 32,000 miles on the odometer. The KZ550 was in better condition and only had 9,000 miles. The other parts that he gave me was a nice set of CB500 twin exhausts and headers.
