Trip-Odometer Reset Button

How is this thing supposed to work?  Mine doesn't push or pull, it twists and increases the hundreds-place number.

I picked my bike up Friday, didn't really get to ride it at all.  It seems to be in pretty good shape for 27yo, the paint looks good, the aluminum looks good, some of the chrome has slight surface rust, not much though.  I think I saw what's preventing the charging system from charging the battery; the Regulator/Rectifier had melted plastic on the heat sink and the cables were melted and taped up.  The carbs probably need synced; the throttle is very touchy and has some play in it.

All I can really do now is wait to see what the shop says.  If I could have trailered it down here, I could troubleshoot and fix some of this stuff; but, it's still up in WV, so I have to wait.

It's not turning the other numbers?  Eventually they should all line up at the same number and then turn together so you can spin it back to 0000.
