I know member here use Facebook and Instagram, but what about Linked In?

Some of my more "professional" contact seem to really like the service.  I am not completely sold on it, and would like to know what others here think of it.

I use it for many years.   It maintains contact on professional level, different than topic forum such as SOHC4 or social platform like Facebook.
The list of my Linkedin contacts contains people I never want to be friend with, I only care for them as connection.

Makes sense?

I guess so.  You ever use it to get a job or new business?

I've been there for 8 years or more. I've had a few head hunters reach out and connect to me but no job interview much less offer ever materialised. I get the sense they find Linked In easy to build up an impressive list of candidates for their client, but already have the "best fit" prepared for recommendation.

I guess a lot of vain people like to have plenty of connections just to publicise how big their dicks are well respected they are in the business world. Not all profiles match the reality.

Fenders was on there, with an impressive profile.

In short, it's done nothing for me in 8 years. Now that it's been bought by Microsoft, it is surely doomed.

I agree with Kev. Had a few headhunters waste my time but nothing ever came of being on there besides people that I hated working with sending me invites. I haven't accepted any new contacts in a few years because it seemed like a waste of time particularly when they went IPO and started charging for 'premium' #$%*.  :P

Pretty much this.  Although I have seen some of the best job listings there.

These all sum it up.  All recruiters use it so if you're looking for work keep it up to date. I find it a waste of time and I think the recruiters are being lazy, but I'm still there.  Initially I signed up just to get in touch with my cousin . . . 10 or more years ago.  It can be a useful tool if you are seriously hunting.

Not all profiles match reality interesting....  You can nominate people to have skills you have never met or received service from on Linked IN.

I am thinking these large mega sites or agreegators which is what they are, encourage fraud.

I have been studying business / online business going on a year now and from what I can tell is that there are too many people out to "game the system".

ie.  On Amazon many top seller buy reviews, or exchange product for reviews.

Endorsing others on Linked IN is the same as a fake review on Amazon.

Am I just naive to want people to tell the truth, have integrity, and play by the rules?

I've been a Linked In member for at least 5 years.  I've always liked being able to connect with other people in my industry.  Kinda interesting now how the Home Tab is like FB.
