Research - Need Help with 550 Info
« on: July 31, 2016, 02:17:22 PM »
Hey Guys & Girls,

I'm trying to figure out a specific detail about 550's.
I know that 750's were manufactured during certain months of each model year, as were GL1000,s.
And I know that 750's and GL1000's were manufactured during the same months (at least in 1976).  :)

So far I have not been able to confirm what months 550's were manufactured (especially in 1976).

My request is very simple.

Could you please reply with a month and year of any 550 you have access to (it's on the VIN plate).
I would really appreciate it.  In your reply, if you could tell me the K or F designation, the month and year and the color (original if known) I would be forever in your debt.

Thanks,

Charlie

CB550F1
VIN plate is below. it's a european model that doesn't have the month/year indication.
i asked honda and they say it was produced between 25 april 1975 and 10 september 1976, that's all they could tell.
original colour is indicated as "blue" in the registration papers, that should mean flake sapphire blue.
the bike's got the brown saddle of the '76 model.

Flatlander,

Holy Cow.  I didn't realize that European models didn't put the manufacture month/year on the VIN plates!!!!!
Maybe some of the other folks might have serial numbers surrounding yours and we can pin it down a little closer.

Very Interesting

Thanks,

Charlie

yes, that's why i contacted honda shortly after i bought it. i hoped they could tell a bit more accurately when it was built.
actually it was first registered on 19.03.1976 so that narrows down the range a bit.
by all specs it's clearly an F1.
