oil hoses restoration with pics here
« on: November 27, 2006, 03:28:54 PM »
Hi gang -

attached are pics of the oil lines for my '76 750K.  I removed the old crimps with a cut off wheel for my dremel, then had then chrome plated at a cost of $10 each (four in all for $40).  I bought the new chromed aluminum hose ends for $6 each from my local auto parts store, Checkers (spectre is the manufactureur and the part number is 3168 it's 1/2 size).  The hose is aeroquip an-10 hose.

I'm almost done with this project, thank god!  I'm almost out of money (that I can hide from my wife)

I do have some in progress shots, I just have not posted them.  I'm wating unitl I'm done with the bike, then will post picks of things I think may be of interest...such as the hoses.

If anyone wants pics, here are things I've photos of:

- The roller bearing conversion of the front end
- power coated most all painted parts that was origianally painted
- 90% of all aluminum parts were chrome plated
- installation of the swing arm with new bushings
- tach and speedo restoration, including appying appliques
- all finned accessories available except for thingys that go on the fins of the engine itself
- lacing new stainless spokes to stock rims

If you want pics of any of this, let me know

yet to be finsihed is:

- painting the gas tank and covers with original color paint
- restoring the air box

I did the same upgrade to my oil lines w/o the chroming.  I managed to leave out a couple of sealing washers and got a pretty good leak the first time I started it :( There are washers inside the fittings that attach to the oil tank, right?
where do you get the aeroquip an-10? I found 1/2" braided stainless steel from www.oldbrits.com (local company) it was $11/ft and the covers/clamps were $6 each.  My origonals were very ratty and leaked and the new ones are such a improvement I'd recomed this upgrade to anyone out there thinking they might need new oil lines.
I'd love to see pics of all of the above... Did you do the powder coating yourself?

jevfro -

You can get the hoses from just about any automotive speed shop.  Aeroquip and Earls are the two most common.  As a last resort, they can be found on Ebay (often cheaper)

I will fit them today.  I believe the photo makes it look short..but I use the origianl hoses to determine the length of the Aeroquip lines.
