Milk and I have parted ways
« on: July 31, 2016, 07:42:04 AM »
Don't know if it's the lactose, the fat, or something else (hormones, antibiotics, or all the other crap they feed cows) but I am just not able to tolerate milk anymore.  Tried a single glass yesterday and it's taking revenge on me this morning.

This should go on the pissed-off thread, I love the taste of milk, drank a gallon a week when I was teen, stopped in college because I couldn't afford it, haven't been able to tolerate it since then.  I have not tried a lactose enzyme - which I think would be my next step.  I can eat cheese all day - except for full fat stuff like Brie which will wreck me if I have more than a little.

We have a "cow share" and get pure, unaltered milk weekly from a fully organic, free range cow. Even those who visit us that are "lactose intolerant" have no issues with it. Might try it

pretty much the same here.  After a while, the taste of milky things may become revolting to you...except Ice Cream.  Pretty sure the taste of ice cream can never be revolting to anyone ever.
If it works good, it looks good...

Try lactose free milk. If no problem then I'd speculate it is lactose intolerance.

I have a friend who for years was just sure his intestinal problems were only "lactose intolerance" right up until the day he went to the emergency room where they discovered the real problem was diverticulitis and he had to have emergency surgery to remove two feet of his small intestine...  :P

Well in addition to my lactose problem and diverticulitis there is gluten intolerance. Slight workarounds. My gut doesn't like me.

Basically we are all lactose intolerant, we were NEVER meant to drink cows milk or any milk after weening from the tit , after drinking it for centuries we are evolving slowly to tolerate it, every now and again I get cramped up from drinking milk, but I still drink it, fresh 100% milk with full fat, our milk doesn't suffer the same fate as US milk, all our {Aussie} milk is labeled so you know what you are getting, some is watered down with permeate but it has to be labeled....

Me too, although I did switch to lactose free a few years ago. To me it tastes even better.

Do you know how much water it takes to make a gallon of almond milk?

The transition from "eat whatever you want" to "eating this will wreck your ashhole" pisses me off.

I have not touched a drop of milk since I moved to France almost 13 years ago.

The UHT carp they sell here that masquerades as "milk" is the reason. Anybody wanting to give up milk just needs to move to France.

I do miss crunchy nut Cornflakes.

While our milk here is plain rubbish, our cheese on the other hand is sublime.
