Well, for many years I bought bikes that needed some work and did moderate restorations. Now, I look for clean low mileage cycles that just need a little TLC.
The BMW has less than 35,000 miles, is extremely clean and needed little to make it a very reliable cycle to cruise the roads safely. New cables, fluids, points, tires and rebuilt forks made it a reliable daily driver. The sidecar was added because I absolutely love them! I bought a Russian Ural 20 years ago and was hooked.
The 1975 CB750 was simply a gift from the universe. I love cruising Craigslist and found this one for $2000. It spent 35 years in a barn and the second owner brought it back with a lot of carb work and a thorough cleaning of the tank. The next owner owned a body shop and professionally painted the tins and frame. When it arrived at my home I started with the basics. My carburetor guy has it right now for a thorough cleaning and sync (Sorry, I don't touch carbs!). After that, there just isn't much to do other than go through the brakes. It is an extremely clean machine with ONLY 3800 MILES!!!
The user name is a lot more literal than one might think, I fly Boeing 737's for a living.
