ARD mag, testing Q?

 What is best to  use on the ends of the solid wires on an ARD mag? Mine had part of a stock looking boot on one wire.  Resistor plug or boot or neither?

don,my mag came with right angle boots,much like an auto boot no resister,found them a little hard to route so I went to my auto parts store and got some straight boots,much easier.bill

No resistor in the boot or plug? I don't think my drag car had resistor plugs, the mag makes a long duration spark.

  Thanks, Bill. I can't find NGK boots on ngk's site with no resistors so i'm going to slap on a set of whatever I have just to try it out.

  OK, they can be rubber boots if I screw tops on the plugs. I bought a VW that didn't run once. I towed it home and found american style plug wires on Bosch plugs. I screwed on a set of plug tops borrowed from a set of champions and drove it to work the next day.

 It doesn't make a spark when I spin it with a drill using a plug grounded to the mag case, my thought is to check continuity at the points and figure out where to check the coil.
 
Update!

No continuity between the points, I closed up the gap and cleaned them and Viola! Sparks! Now I'm going to attempt to set the timing per a manual I printed out. 

 Search isn't working for me at all, in either place.

 The housing has an engraved timing mark and the upper pulley has an ink mark that is faint, It appears the rotor is advanced at #1 which is marked on the cap (thanks Bill) so visually the timing appears good, is there a good way to mark TDC and check with a timing light?  I don't have a dial back light but can get one.
 

 The oil tank has some really old green 50 weight (Kendall?) trapped inside, I think I'd better clean that out somehow. Frank has spotted that green oil in several pictures, you got a good eye Frank.
