Topic: clutch and cable not engaging.

I recently changed my bars on "72 cb750 back to stock ones. P.O. had some country western looking, extended bars that this bike didn't want. I did the swap back to stock and now the clutch wont engage but it did before the stock bars were returned on the bike. I set the cable adjustment all to way out to put more pull on the cable, both on the lever side and down on the engine side, but no dice. I am using the same cable that was on the bike before the bar swap, it looks to be the stock size and in decent shape.

The bike just lurches into 1st from neutral when clutch in engaged and I am trying to ride away from a stop.

Anyone solved this problem in the past?

Assuming the clutch adjustment marks are aligned, you may be facing a symptom of a cable that is too long. 
Something I learned building bicycles.  If cable and housing are excessively long, the bending and twisting will result in the pulling force being exerted elsewhere.  Rather than its intended target. 
Which is why shifting and braking on department store huffy's often suffer.

Very interesting. I will get a new, stock cable and give it a try.

changed the cable. It was too long and didn't engage the clutch. New one works great!
