Getting back to the 'really really big show' this may have been how they did up the bikes. Looks pretty old at first glance http://annarbor.craigslist.org/mcy/5754460053.html

See there are Harley's also but have seen better than this one. http://annarbor.craigslist.org/mcy/5755912718.html

Bikes were built for the show. You could hear a starter in a couple scenes, before they had electric starters...

Just think of the untapped market "The Factory" could break into by producing replicas of those early bikes.

People making them now. Have been for years. $20K gets you an engine.

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/281633153439

Yeah I noticed that as well. Also the part about speeds in excess of 90mph back in the early teens.

Let me know if you want to sell one mate, it'll look nice parked next to my Elvis bike...... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Ha ha, last time I saw a slide carb on a vintage Harley engine, it had "Mikuni" cast into it. Poetic license? ;D

I think you'd be hard pressed to sell those to the masses. There is a novelty to them. My age group (I'm 28) is more interested in sport bikes, and new Harley's.

Not so long ago, the local Abate Motorcycle Bash sold chances to bash a honda with a sledge hammer. After a few injuries they began dropping them from a crane. Now days they advertise they support the riders right to ride any bike they like.

Harley was reading this and just came out with a 2017 whole new engine, a 4 valve per cylinder called the "Milwaukee Eight".  Oh the power of the SOHC forum (and maybe Polaris)  ;)  https://ultimatemotorcycling.com/2016/08/25/2017-harley-davidson-milwaukee-eight-motors-11-fast-facts/

Ha ha, when I read that Eric, I couldn't help but imagine the actor who played Arthur Davidson standing in front of a crowd of 1903 era journalists while he told them all about the wonders of Harley Davidsons powerful new engine! ;D

I am gone for a couple weeks and this whole place falls apart!  Now you guys are riding Harlley's?  The world must be about to end.

As far as replicas I don't see the need for that as their current technology is already over dated.

Ha ha, There's a similar thread in a Harley forum that I frequent, and surprisingly, no Honda bashing? I guess Harley riders don't have that chip on their shoulders that you guys do? ;D

I've ridden a Harley before Terry but I like Japanese bikes better and that's what I've always owned.I'm not really 'bogged-down' w/ a 'chip' personally.

I enjoy working on European/foreign cycles quite a bit too  :)

It's interesting, we're talking about someone trotting out the old Harley engines remade with today's tooling.

I remember reading a biography on WWI combat pilots and some of the best were also serious motorcycle riders.  None were Harley riders - that's not the point, but the riders were noted for "Roaring around the roads on their Wanderer or Moto Reve" and you look at the bikes they look less powerful than a bicycle.  Heck they look like bicycles.

I'm guessing that new Harley engine would be similar - slow, dull, and dangerous to operate.
