I am about to go get my 72' out of cold storage and start the resurrection. I am really jazzed about the 836 kit and all the peripheral
mods I have been reading about. BUT, my donor has 62,000 miles on her...what about the transmission? how do I asses condition,
and what do you do to "restore" it???

How about having the transmission undercut?

I'd start my tranny assessment by putting some miles on the bike before breaking it down. Simply see how it feels and shifts. Make sure it stays in gear.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Manual has min's and maximums on shift forks.

I'd pay attention to them. Any discoloring on them is a sure sign that something is bent, broke, or worn out.

When you pull the gears off the shaft...look at where the teeth mesh. Abnormal wear is readily evident.

Seriously consider repacing your starter rollers.

Replace the bearings in the tranny.

Most kick starters don't get alot of use...but pay attention to its gears etc too.
