How stuff is your guys throttle and clutch?
« on: August 07, 2016, 05:56:54 PM »
I've been working on a 73 cb500 for about a month now and it's running decently. Just needs some small fixes and adjustments. But I was wondering how stiff should the throttle and clutch be because mine is a workout every ride. I was thinking about maybe lubing up the throttle housing but I'm not sure what I could do for the clutch. Any ideas for either?

Mine requires a firm grip left and right.  Could the throttle spring be lighter?  Sure maybe.  Clutch though, they're just good strong setups.

My 72 CB500 had the same problem when I got it going. In my case it turned out to be the clutch cable that was causing the stiff clutch lever and the dry carb and linkage pivot points that was causing the stiff throttle.

My cb550 clutch is very heavy, to the point where a day after being  stuck in traffic my left hand was in pain. Pretty sure there's a problem or some wear somewhere in there, between the adjuster and the lever on the clutch cover.

If you detach one end of the clutch cable and move it back and forth you can see of its binding in the cable.
