Project Choices 73' or 76'
« on: August 11, 2016, 08:10:04 PM »
Hello. I have completed my first rebuild of a 78' 750F. It was fun and very rewarding,i am hooked.
Now the big question. I know where there are 2 cb 750s,1-73 with 17,000 miles it has wrong seat, handlebars and the front fender has been cut. 2-76F with 30,000 miles and looks to be complete and original.
Both of these bikes have been stored inside and have not run in years.
So my question is which one should i pick-up? Is one more valuable than the other?

Thanks "Handlebar"

I am finishing up a 78f build too. Funny how you can get sucked into a single model!! Same thing happened to me. Interested to see what the members have to say on the topic.

I feel that way. The older bikes have the more classic look, and IMO have a better potential to appreciate in value - especially if you're careful not to mix and match too many "incorrect" parts.

I think the earlier K bikes have more collector appeal also but if the price was right you should just buy them both. Parts are easier and more plentiful for the early K's also.  Grab them  when they come along if the price is right.

Yeah. I like the "BOTH" comments. But I think I will go after the 73'. It has fewer miles and a different look than the 76'f. I also know about "rat holes". As i have owned as many as 20 vintage snowmobiles at one time. But I am trying to faze out of them. Global Warming you know.  ;)

Ride on my friends.

I think the 73 has a nicer look , if its stock paint, what color ? CBO is the fastest btw.
Myself an F model with stock header, never ever looked as racy as a K with a Kerker or Hooker or Jardine on it.

I went and looked at these bikes again today. The 73 750 has a (aftermarket?) 4 into 2 exhaust and i have never seen one like it. The 2 and 3 headpipes cross each other in the front and the mufflers are very short. Any idea on these?
The 76 750 ss has a 4into2 set-up with longer mufflers. I thought all ss models had a 4into1.
Just trying to get a handle on what these are.
School me guys.

Thanks

Right on. The 73 has had the front fender cut, missing the left side cover and the seat is not stock. other than that it looks pretty complete. 11,000 miles and has been setting inside for sometime,i was able to turn it with the kicker. Just wondering what these pipes are #3 cross infront of #2 them down to a very short "baffled" muffler. It will need a complete refurbish. I will get some pics when i go back.

A lot of the parts you mentioned that it needs are readily available. At this point the milage doesn't mean much because they have both been sitting. It really boils down to which model you liked better....K or F. You can put me down as K kinda guy...the earlier the better.

I did a 76F last year and though I have not done a K, just from looking for parts, the K is easier to find stuff for. I like the look of both styles but you don't see many F bikes being restored. That was one of the reasons I chose to restore an F. It was also nice to get one at a fair price now a days. Shameless Pic Attached  8)

Very nice przjohn. I have a question, did all the SS models have a factory 4into1 exhaust? The one that i am looking at has a 4into2.could this be a "aftermarket" they are in very nice shape.

Here is a pic of my 78SS.

Yes all the 750 F  1975-78 models came from the factory with a 4 to 1 exhaust.

And an NOS for a 76 is made of unobtainium. I went with a Kerker, (Expensive Choice) because it was period correct.

OK. I am going to go after both of them. Nothing ventured nothing gained "right". I know the prices are right, but somtimes i have trouble pulling the trigger. The 76SS is a cleaner more original bike than the 73K. Stay tuned as one of them may come up for sale.

Well i pulled the trigger on both of my new projects. I think i did very well this purchase. I stopped there today and aired up the tires and gave them another inspection. Going with the trailer Saturday. Here are some quick pics.
I am stoked the 73 is going to be a "cool" ride.
