mixing and matching Avons or BT45 Post your photos

Anybody running an Avon Speedmaster combined with an Avon Road Runner ?     Was really trying to find a better vintage/race-looking tire combo.   I like the speedmaster.   Not quite sold on the Roadrider for a match to the speedmaster.    May end up getting both F& R road riders.

This will be my daily rider.

2 choices for rear in the Avon:  120/80V or 120/90V   more side wall height with the 90.

But, if I go with a matched set, the Bridgestone BT45 is in the mix.

Post your photos of the rear tires mounted if you have either of those, would ya ?

I have not mixed and matched, but I have used Road Runners and BT45s (as well as Spitfire S11s).

Spitfire S11 -- good vintage racer look but not very grippy.

Road Rider -- good traction but with grooved highway pavement the tread seemed to grab the grooves and create some wobble at higher speed

BT45 -- the best tires of these three on my 750 and 550

I have not run the Continental Classic Attacks yet.

If you're using a ribbed Speedmaster up front then the natural choice for the rear IMO would be the Avon SM Mk 11. This is the combination I have always used on my old Brits, including my current Norton which does get some 'spirited' use. I opted for these not just because they're period correct, but because they hold the road well too.
Also worth noting that the Speedmaser/SMs don't get the same bad press as the Roadriders for cracking well before they're worn out!

If it were not for period correctness however, the Norton would probably be wearing BT45s like my CB750. You just can't take bends on a Speedmaster ribbed tyre like you can on a BT45, and wet painted white lines can be lethal if you're banked over.

BTW, worst tyres I've ever used are Dunlop K70s.
