Need Help Finding My Nuts - CB550
« on: August 13, 2016, 09:31:31 AM »
I have a '77 or '78 head on my '75 CB550 and am using the updated cam cover with rocker shaft pins.  When I got it, the nuts for the pins weren't with it.  That didn't seem like much of a concern at the time, but now I can't find any nuts that fit the threads on the pins.  It should be an M6-1.25, I think, but I can't find any to verify. All other sizes that I've tried, which I think are all the other sizes, don't fit.

If anyone knows the size, can verify the size, has an extra set to sell, or any other advice, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thx!

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. M6 1.0. Normal.  If you can't get normal nuts to thread it means you need to run the pins through a dye or use a thread file and clean em up.   I use hardened m6 flange nuts for this (10.9. Not 8.8).  Maybe it's overkill.
I recently restored and sold a 77 cb750f, and am nearly finished with a (former basket case) cb750k5.  This is a place to share, learn and enjoy.  I am grateful to and for 99+% of this site's membership.

You're the winner!  It turned out that a PO tapped the end of each pin with a hammer.  The threads looked clean, but the first thread on each one was beat up.  They were perfect after running them through a die.

Thanks!
