1980 CB750 steering stem beairng adjuster nut THREAD size
« on: July 04, 2018, 07:28:01 AM »
I searched, I swear I did.... ::)
And read many posts, but they are all asking (and answering) what size the top nut hex is, or thread size for the top nut.

Did not find any post with the thread size for the bearing adjuster nut...
Helping with a front end swap, and need to thread size so a new stem can be made.

Thanks

Erik

Do you have your old stem, that would be easier.

Thanks

And perhaps...Ive done dozens that way combining the stem from one model to the clamp of another.. But that is not relative this time.

Owner has a damaged stem from the 750 he can not good a good measurement on, making a new stem is not the issue and is less work then combining parts (more so when you don't have the correct donor parts, but do have the raw materials , skill and machinery), so making it is the easy part, just need to confirm the thread size

If you can't send him the stem, send him the nut, the he can confirm the pitch to cut the thread.
If you can measure od of the thread, even better.

Thank you again, but I think there is a mis understanding.
I'm Erik , a bike guy, Ride, build, service, certified instructor here in TX https://www.facebook.com/WeBuildAdventure/

Im also a machinist, welder, metal fabricator..  I have a fellow machinist, welder, metal fabricator becoming a bike guy.. HE has the project at hand.

The new stem will be made to fit the CB frame and steering head bearing size (why we need the Cb adjuster nut thread size) and then a set of triples that will hold 2000 ZX7r forks (so stem will be made to fit a M25 x 1.0 top nut)

Erik, Honda used the same bearing sizes on a LOT of different models, with a 26mm ID top bearing. On the SOHC bikes, the thread is 26mm x 1.0mm pitch. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the DOHC is the same. ;)

So if using the Honda bearings, use the adjuster nut, then on the top of the stem use the 25mm x 1.0
I still don't see a  issue and have converted quite a few stems.
