I need some guidence on a possible F3 purchase
« on: August 19, 2016, 02:59:11 PM »
So I found a guy locally selling 78' F. The bike has 44xxx on the odometer, the exhaust is falling apart, front calipers are off the bike but supposedly has them. frame is all there minus the "hump" that was the factory seat tie down. What is this bike worth? he was asking 1500 but that seems high to me. oh and the tank has some dents as well. any and all opinions welcome thank you.

Unless he fabricated a hoop or cross-brace of some sort to reinforce the frame in the rear that's a shaky bike.

This is only my opinion but it's way overpriced.  does he have the rear fender - is the inner fender in there - does he have the airbox - what else is wrong with it and where is it located? When's the last time it was ridden - has he been operating on rear brakes only? Cuz the bike don't stop without some kind of brake system. All of these things I would want answered - but again, this is just my opinion.  Overpriced by 1/2 at least. I would walk away.

$1500 is a joke for that bike.

Looks like the front brakes are missing too.  As soon as you fixed one issue you would have 2 or 3 more pop up.  Run. Away.

I appreciate the confirmation to my first thought, I won't try to put up a fight to let this one go. For one reason or another I got in my head, it was a steal. Then, I saw the bike in person and was surely disappointed. Thank you all for the input, I'll throw out a parts bike offer. I have messaged Bill Benton in the past for some parts I think but he was not around or something I never heard back.

That one not only needs recomissioning and restoring but it's been cut up too. There;s a lot to be said for a parts bike, they've saved me a bunch. But I got some free.

Haha thanks Bill, I'd definitely like to come down your way sometime and talk bikes. I imagine you have some 750 stories that would make the Japanese scared. haha I was originally just looking for a running 750 for cheap until I finish my other project. A bit impulsive yes, but I have the itch for riding again bad! its been too long. However, after looking at that bike made me start to focus on what I already have to work on. But I would like to get my hands on a spare engine to build preferably a 78' while I kick around on the stocker, if that damn day can ever get here!
