78 750F
« on: August 23, 2016, 11:14:08 AM »
A nearby antique tractor guy has a 78 750 f for $400. It's engine and brakes are stuck and it's rusty on the outside. Not pretty but mostly all there. icky gas tank,  Parts only, has title issues.  It should be worth that but I can't get excited about it. I do like the triple disc bikes and it would be good for parts. I  do have a title and wrecked frame for a 76 and own a tig welder lol.

 Opinions?
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

Load it up for $300.  You might get lucky and have a nice head/cam worth about that alone.

Might take a look at ebay to see what those brake parts go for....they are pricey.  Motor is more expensive to rebuild than lesser 750s, but worth it imo.  Also, tranny is much improved over earlier 750s8

As said above, the engine rebuilding can get expensive and piston rings are available sometimes and sometimes not, but the result is worth it IMHO - and you can always use different frame.

I personally like Comstars, run them on Red tubeless now.

I would get it and open it up to see whats what.

As far as brakes, Jaguar has thread on using newer calipers on 78F forks, you dont have to go original, you can upgrade.
