Quick question gents, is the hex bolt that holds on the alternator rotor a reverse thread bolt? Same question apples to the hex bolt that holds the points in. Thanks!

Ya gotta remove the little hex screw before you can remove the big hex nut from the timing advancer.
Then remove points plate, then lastly the advancer itself.

Shwwweeewww ok sorry this took forever but got the bench up, set up, still tearing the motor down. I'm on removing the cylinder studs and other misc crap. Let's see here. The points and what not are off. Alternator rotor bolt is off but that's all going to take some loud bangin to get that off so I'll wait till tomorrow. Uhhhhh all of the case bolts are out, just trying to figure out how to separate the case. And still waiting on the JIS set to show up so I can remove the oil pump. As always I appreciate the help, let me know if you guys know any secrets around this area. Oh and of course the set up, but ignore the cat photo. That's not mine.  8)

Nice progress so far. For the rotor you could use an M16 1.5 bolt. Thread it in tight, heat rotor with propane and whack the bolt with a hammer. Should pop right off.

If you want, have a look at my build thread. In the table of contents there's a link to the rotor removal. Mine seemed much more stubborn than most. Heat might not even be required.

Aye thanks gents! I'm actually really surprised at how stubborn the oil pump is to remove. I've been able to skimp by this far with removing JIS screws with a Phillips but holy crap those oil pump screws are in there. For the studs how ever I've been doing the whole stack two nuts on top of the threading, tighten em both against each other and rotate the bottom one to wind the stud out but that's proving intense. But from what I understand the studs have to come out before the case comes apart yeah?

Are you sure you're turning the screws that old the oil pump to the crank case?  And NOT the screws that hold the cap tight on the pump body?

Cause 6-8# is all you should be up against on most screws.

Ha, thanks buddy. Just trying to be as organized as I can.

Regarding the oil pump, even with JIS drivers it can be a pain. A nice tool is a manual impact driver (the ones you hit with a hammer). If you get JIS bits for that then you'll be in business. Worst case you can drill the heads off (which are usually the part that's seized) and pull off the oil pump then unthread the length by hand.

If you want to be a bad mother f'er then you can drill them out with left hand bits. I owe Cal for that recommendation. LOVE those things.

6-8# going in doesn't mean 6-8# coming out ;)

One of the few "as seen on tv" gadgets I own are the SpeedOut screw removers.

They've saved my arse a few times.

Actually bomb that's a really good point. I'll try just removing it in general.

But Dave I took your M16x1.50 advice and my local hardware store didn't have it. I'll have to call our House of Honda here and see if he can hook me up with a bolt for the alt rotator removal. Buuuutttt that center punch is a brilliant idea!

Would be quite the trick if it worked.  The spacer would make a convenient slide to tap it out.

Reminds me what I learned of old tallships, all the ropes and riggin on the boat are the very tools ya need to assemble/disassemble the boat!

Y'arr
