CB550 Headlight Ears
« on: August 23, 2016, 01:58:03 PM »
Picked up a 76 550K that will be getting restored this Winter. I haven't dove into this project yet but am looking over the bike and coming up with a game plan. One of the things I have noticed is the headlight ears are dented in the rear. I don't see what they could have hit on both sides? Now, looking on Ebay for non dented ones to rechrome they ALL seem to be dented, what's the deal? I am thinking of blasting off what's left of the chrome, pulling the dents out somehow, and maybe using braze to fill in, and then send to chrome. Anybody have a solution that will retain the stock look?

All 500/early 550 stock fork ears have the dents in the rear for fuel tank clearance, so to retain 'that stock look' and to keep them from hitting the tank simply leave them there!

So that's how they came stock? Seems kind of half azzed but if that is how they are suppose to be, so be it, thanks.

Pictures would help us determine what you're talking about. If they are factory indentations or simply dents from the bike being knocked over. These ears are easily dented especially if they are the version where the signals are bolted to them, which I believe the 76 is this way. .
