No, not at all, I have this philosophy..
Make miles, less stops more miles.
Then when you get home  get better pics off the net, some from an aircraft.

However if there is more than one bike, and or you have a tripod with timer, then you get pics like yours.
A few I did take, near NATURITA, west of toward Moab.

BtW , Ibthink a few of us gotvto Dolores via the 666 highway...

Sorry I Missed this trip, I was out in Washington in record heat. We did 9 day 3500 miles from Rapid City to Puyallup, WA. Bear tooth,  Lolo Pass and everywhere in between.

Any proposal as to the month next year?  Perhaps late spring since it gets pretty hot in the summer.
Why wait until next spring? Why not this fall??

Some folks might not be able to get off work again for an extended period...

Yes but it could be different folks. Also if near a large number of members  it could be held on a weekend I think.
Big Sur would be another cool spot, might be hard to get into State PARK UNLESS WE RESERVE NOW FOR NEXT year. Man I spent a few fun weeks there before.

Undeniable that the view and weather are most always fantastic.  Frank, totally agree and very true about more capable of attending who are closer.  Many riders I am betting never did a  1.5-2k mile round trip on their sohc4...  much less 3k and above.  Now, Mooshie is approaching a class all her own! I image Danny's $4k pales in comparison to Mooshie's 21 day adventure.

I am finally home.  7,000 miles and Dash is getting a well deserved rest.  So wonderful to have met all of you and hopeflly the SECOND Reunion we can meet even more.
Now, I have to fix Dash's oil leak.  Are there video's, tips, tricks, write up's on how to replace the pucks on a 1976 CB550?  Also, what are pucks?  Is that truly what they are called?  Any help and part numbers is greatly appreciated  ;)

The pucks are Honda's #91318-300-013 . You can get them at PartsNmore for $2 each, their #01-0137 (get 6 of them). If they don't show up under their 550 listing, look under CB750K, same part.

To install: remove tach cable and sparkplugs, then the top engine cover (little one) and then the big one. The rockers all come off with it. The pucks are then sitting right on top. When you put the new ones in, spread some Permatex #2 around the bottom edge to ensure it won't ever leak again, then set them in their holes and put the top back together. You'll have to reset the valve clearance afterward, most likely.

Sounds easier than on the 750.
Make sure you read up on the procedure to put rocker cover back on, so you don't bend the valves.

Let me know if these black discs are the pucks. This is when I was replacing my rocker cover. If they are it's a decent pic of what they look like.

Yup, those are pucks, Gene. On the 750, they are under the cam towers, and much harder to replace.

Thank you all for the tips and the pictures (always helpful as I am more visual).  I should have ridden to Boston and taken Andy up on his offer to repair...LOL.  I will tackle this soon enough.  Other than the blasted oil leak Dash did amazingly well.  Not a glitch and I put him through his paces too.

Every 750 out there will have to be dealt with in the puck department eventually. Until I saw Gene's picture I had never paid attention to a 550. On a 750 the pucks are under the cam towers so the cam chain has to come loose and the camshaft and towers have to be removed. Looks like the 550's pucks don't involve any part of the cam. 750's can have problems like the threads getting ripped out when removing cam tower and cam caps. You also have to be careful to replace o rings and using(& not using certain sealers). Read up about it very thoroughly before attempting to do it yourself. Also to be noted.....the 750 engine has to come out of the frame for access unless you have a frame kit. The 550 can be done in frame. Leaking pucks are usually misdiagnosed as being a head gasket leak because of the way the leaking oil runs around the mating surface of the head & cylinder. Other leakers could be valve cover gasket and tach cable seal but with proper detective work a guy can pin point the source of the leak.

I'd love to Scott but my bike isn't back together yet and will have to wait a few months for cash to do a few things and for a road trip. If things were better I probably would have tagged along with Matt to Dolores. I did just spend $60 on it a couple of weeks ago getting the tube section of my frame kit welded up. Next phase is rent a trailer from U haul, make an appointment with the welder to do the frame pieces and then I can start reassembly. I also have to buy some speedo/tach faces and install. I have the speedo apart presently. I will be able to ride sooner than spring but I doubt if I will be going anywhere far till then.

Planes, trains, or automobiles, we don't care how you get there, Fred. The only rule for reunions is to show up. ;)

Mooshie, you have to back off the adjusters when reinstalling the 550 cam/valve cover AND use rubber bands across the cover pulling the rocker arms up so you do not bend something in the valve train, usually a valve.
