it seems like if Colorado is going to be the location that I need to push the date back to mid-August rather than mid-September to keep the evening low temps at a more reasonable level. I would prefer a location more central just to keep the ride distance closer to 1100 miles than 1400, which is what I personally would be looking at for Durango.

That said, I am looking for maximum participation here and if I need to ride an extra few hours coming and going I can live with that.

I'm with you 754. KOA's are good for a shower and that's about it. They cost a ton, pack you in like sardines and are often situated right next to a railroad track near a crossing and/or a highway. Not knowing Co. too well, I googled Durango campgrounds and came up with this:
https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=durango%20co%20camping&tbs=lf_msr:-1,lf_od:-1,lf_oh:-1,lf:1,lf_ui:1,lf_pqs:EAE&rflfq=1&rlha=0&rllag=37283032,-107859914,7953&tbm=lcl&rldimm=11243732648863260373
Good ratings and apparently $20/night.

There is Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, East of Montrose, with camping for $16, limited to two vehicles per site, plus a $15 7-day National Park pass per vehicle.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

The other thing is, I think some of us dont fit in the KOA scene..

There is also a end of August event in Utah at Toele Miller motorsports Park...Ahmra event.Bonnevill GP
Preceded by Bonneville if its on.. Several of us have met there before , and some may not be able to make the other reunion event being planned.
Having ridden there a few times, its getting fairly cool at night , and dark by 8 pm ..far shorter days already.

That is a good camp, we stayed there in 2013.

Mid August is much better for me.  That way I can continue East for my ride across US.  Wherever you all agree to stay/meet up I will be in the closest hotel to that spot.  Thank you BD for getting the ball rolling.  We have been talking about this for so many years I'm glad we are actually looking at doing it.

Setting the dates early will allow vacation time to be planned with enough advanced notice to employers.  Any alternative dates due to rainy weather I presume are OUT...
Reserving camping sites if you are camping can be done in blocks with enough advanced notice in many places and even in National Parks.  Provided there is not a planned event that draws crowds of people from all over, then sometimes things book up way in advanced...up to a year.

:)Bankerdanny........Thanks for getting this going. I think it would be great to see some of the other form members, and there bikes. and no better place than Colorado. Also mid August would be a great time. I,am guessing there would be 25 to 50 people show up. You might think of a little smaller town to have it in. The motel would probable less expensive. I have stayed in the town of Dolores, west of Durango. There is a motel there that would 50 or 60. They also have rooms with 3 and 4 beds. T he prices are very reasonable. There is great riding in that area. Also SouthFork east of Durango is a nice area with lots of motels at good prices. If someone from Colorado could find a motel, pick a date, I will be there.

Consensus seems to be mid-August is the date. So let's figure either 11-13 or 18-20.

I will focus in on an actual location with the goal of a place that offers camping for those that want to do that as well as a decent motel option for Princess Mooshie  ;)

I like the idea of having the actual meet up mid-week for us poor slobs that have to work Mon-Fri. Most of us will have some distance to travel. Having it on a weekend doesn't give much travel time to either get there or get back to work on a Monday.

Personally I was going to block out 2 full weeks for this so that I could take my time coming and going. I have no issue shifting the official dates to mid-week if that works best for the largest bunch of people.

How does 8-15 to 8-17 work for everyone. That is dead center of the month, it allows for people to leave on a Saturday and get 4 days to find their way to the meetup, hang for 2-3 days and then have 3-4 days to ride home.

Thanks Danny, that's what I had in mind. A lot of us could get by taking just a week off that way.

Treat her like a lady and she or her minions won't have to hurt you...

My daughter doesn't take abuse from anyone...when she was around 16 she and a girlfriend/neighbor with her girlfriend's boyfriend were walking the half mile up the road to the reservoir.  The guy was picking on her smacking her lightly and she grew tired of it and told him to stop in a serious tone.  Well he did it again, she told him, if you don't stop I am going to hurt you.  He laughs.  Then shortly afterwards he reaches out and smacks her on the arm and she catches his hand on the retraction scratching him deep enough to draw blood.  He sees it bleeding and crys out Ow, you scratched me and it is bleeding.  She replied, I told you to stop or I was going to hurt you.

Now Mooshie is much nicer but, better not push it.

I spent some time looking at Durango's website yesterday and it does seem like a good place for the get together. It has multiple camping options as well as a large number of hotels/motels/B&B options for anyone that wants to go that route.

A couple of the camp grounds also have cabin options, so Mooshie and any others that might want a bed and bathroom (and I might be one of those myself) can get one while still being walking distance from the tent campers.

So let's make this official: the inaugural SOHC/4 Family Reunion will take place August 15-17, 2017 in Durango, Colorado.

With that established I need to get a decent idea of who will attend and if you would want to tent it, get a cabin, or use a hotel/motel in the area. Once I have some numbers on the tent/cabin folks I can call a couple of the camp grounds and see about negotiating a group rate and reserving enough tent spots for us to all be together.

Gonna have to be on a bike with rear shocks, and its going to take a good 2 1/2 days to get there..

I have always found shocks to be a plus.

My ride will be 1300-1400 miles depending on the route and if I make a stop in Denver on the way to visit family. I am figuring I will take the 4 full days to get there, maybe 4.5 if I decide to try and leave Friday afternoon 8/11.

Geesh, I seem to have collected a lot of names on this thread  ???
Count me in.  I figure 2 days riding to get to Durango (I will save the fun roads for once at the reunion).
For those going West>East lets talk about meeting up along the way (Scottly, Raf, Ofreen, others?...)

Lisa, you might consider taking the northern route west at that time of year, avoiding the heat crossing the Mojave and possible monsoon activity in AZ. Perhaps you could rendezvous with Greg and Frank along their way from the North West?
