I'm in Denver, but I'm going to keep moving. I have an intermittent blockage of my #4 float valve that now and then starves me of fuel. I dropped the bowl by the roadside thinking I might have something clogging the main jet.  But about 20 min into working on it it all of a sudden started pissing fuel even though the tap was off. Putting the bowl back on was a #$%* and I lost a screw. I will have to hit up a hardware store or Home Depot tomorrow for a replacement.

the sohc cannonball run, good luck everyone!bill

Speaking of Cannonball....we found ourselves on what's called Cannonball bridge which is an old converted train crossing over the Wabash.  NOT made for motorcycles!

Let's see if this link to the video works

WOW! That bridge was long and a little big sketchy, too!

So here is the deal , I flat out did not get ready. Motor stuff
Took longer  than I thought, and it ended up Stock,  but it was goid..I was rusty and needed to get back into it. There us a long list of didn't get done.on all levels.
Basically I got a top end refresh, and all the rest that needed attentionisnt done . Embarrassing really riding last nite with a hit wired single beam headlite. . It goes out. .major pucker time.  But. I rather try to stop in the dark on an interstate with rumble strips than a shaky mountain pass road.
Today did me in, I started at 11 Sunday went till 9 tonight, just over 1000 miles for my breakin ride .
I am In Spanish Fork Utah, take the mountain roads thru Moab  the rest of the way.
The fatigue keep tripping me up  the capper was the 60 mile ride thru SLC..even at 7 o'clock it's bad, and 70  mph is slower than most drivers even the 3 trailer semis.  Reminds me of LA.
So I said screw it, I will try to get a room   , might cost me a train ride, but safer for me.
Btw i planned on a new sleeping bag,  but A ran out if time, and B bought bike parts.
I did bring mine, but with broken zipper and untested air mattress, it may not have helped.l i really tried to get my ice  cooler mounted , but a mount was missing, and time to pack so the tent went back in the garage.

Frank, you don't have to make excuses, YOU DA MAN! Kind of a cross between Alley Oop from that old 50's or 60's song and the most interesting man in the world. You really burnt the midnight oil getting that thing on the road. So even if the mitt was too big and the sun was in your eyes........you pulled it off. You are my hero, just wish I had a running bike to join all of you.

Ride safe and keep the pics and stories coming!

Frank is there anything you do not have for the bike you need someone to send to Dolores to make her safe to ride for the return trip home?  You need a headlight and some wiring and troubleshooting help from the sound of it.  Do you need a headlight other than a 7" round...not sure what you are running.  If you are looking to replace it with a sealed beam the GE Nightbreaker lamps are better than most other halogen sealed beams out there...
You need to repair the lighting situation and a couple good night's sleep.  Do you need to borrow a tent?  I can ship you mine and you can post it back before crossing the border.  I could send it to Scott's place and you could pick it up there in your wander about on your way home.

Hope you get some rest and the remainder of the trip is without incident.

Everthing sorta works, but none of it works well. The motor seems good, exhaust leak I think, no oil anymore. In had most of the parts there waiting, just plain ran out of time.
It's not a stock bulb, I brought a spare, I had a whole left side switch assembly, I planned on swapping, but the clock won. If I see a bike shop tommorow may pick up a drive chain, mine is not good.
My tent has been packed along, and not used, more times than I can remember.  Putting the cooler on the seat takes a lot of space.

Frank, I have an old dome tent that I don't use anymore because it's a PITA to put up. If you want, I'll throw it in the truck.

Frank, need a sleeping bag or some good velcro to stick on and put a couple tacks of thread in the four corners to make the bag give a little more warm?  I could send you a bag that is good for 30 degrees...

The first night out on our ride to CO in '79, one of the guys found he'd grabbed the bag with a broken zipper from his ex-wife's place. He did a temporary repair with duct tape "stitches" across the zipper opening. He did have to sort of worm his way in and out, but he stayed warm. ;D

Outside my hotel last night in Fair deal, CO. Elevation hit me hard this morning and had me throwing up the water I drank when I woke up. Shook it off and headed out. The advice I received on jetting was spot on. 10k feet and no issues. Source a float bowl screw a couple hours in. Only issue now is I think the hotel didn't give me my license back when I checked in as it isn't in my wallet or any pockets.

Yeah, drink lots of water, all you sea level or plains folk. Always takes me a few days to get acclimated to the elevation.

I'm extremely jealous of you all. Some day, I would love to partake in this event. I just need to build a more comfy/quiet SOHC4 first.

Enjoy the fellowship, rides and scenery!

Danny call them and have them drop it in overnight to you at Dolores.  Or at least Fax a copy to you.

Travelling internationally I would photocopy all my ID and leave in a safe place.  If it is stolen/taken then getting replacement temp ID will be easier or you can use it to show until you get replacements.  Using a secure encrypted USB stick that is water resistant can be a good idea, you could hide such a device on the bike in case you lost or it was stolen, keeping copies of registration and insurance to boot.  The encryption would protect the info from theft. You could create a dummy black box with wiring into and out of it with screw top cover on bottom to hide this and bit of cash or photocopy of licence and credit card, etc.  Being creative in your stash never hurts.

Just got off the phone and that is what they are doing. I am paying even though at a minimum we should split the cost, but it is too important to fight over.
