Danny, that is a beautiful piece of road and fun as well.  Pack a couple empty quart bottles of gas, I think you would be fine with the distance between stations.  East of Phoenix coming down through Show Low & Snowflake and the PineTop area there is a popular route through the White Mountains.  Quite beautiful and curvy. Rt 60 goes into Globe and you can go to Tucson from there.
Azwhitemountains.net

Do you plan to go down to Bisbee and Tombstone?  The later is very much a Tourist town but they have kept much of the original and replica of the old main street.  Bisbee was a mining town and has plenty of great places to eat and old places and the streets there can be quite a riot, very narrow.  Places cut into the mountain and lots of steps.  They have a very good microbrewery.

I would love to, but I don't think that my schedule will allow me. I'll be staying the Phoenix area the evening of the 18th and I am targeting getting home the evening of the 25th so I can have the full weekend to recuperate from the vacation before getting back to work on the 28th.

Here are the riders going (and the maybe's).  If people could add where they are coming from and rough idea of route then perhaps if we crisscross one another it will be easier to meet up along the way to Dolores (if anyone wants to that is  :D).  OR YOU COULD JUST PM ME AND I WILL ADD IT TO A MASTER LIST:

Yes:
Bankerdanny,
Mooshie= Santa Barbara, CA>Riverside, CA>Flagstaff AZ> Dolores, CO (not many twisties on this ride basically I-40)
754,
budman,
CB650,
CBJoe (+1),  Indianapolis, IN > Carbondale, IL > Joplin, MO > Garden City, KS > Pagosa Springs, CO > Dolores, CO
DonR,
Gene (+1), Seal Beach, CA>Needles, CA;>Holbrook, AZ;>Farmington, NM;>Dolores.  Mooshie, we may meet on the way into Dolores or anywhere along the 40 for that matter. Cutting North at Gallup (not Flagstaff). We're taking the rte to Needles thru Joshua tree/29 Palms. Looks pretty - and pretty desolate:)
JerryRXman,

Nevermind...I see that was a last resort Did the 836 donor from the other bike not work out?  Or was that never the plan?

I know. I am trying very hard to finish all the things that I need to do on the bike. This is going to be a very busy weekend in the shop.

Boy, near as I can tell it's going to be one very hot trip. If no breakdowns though, should be a good adventure.

Don't jinx me man!   At the moment the projected high temps for me from Indy all the way through Kansas are in the low 80's!

I replaced the #1 carb body today.  I had a small crack in the old body where the emulsion tube screws in.  Got it swapped out, synced and test ridden.  Seems to be running better.  May need a wee-bit of tweaking here and there.  I'm hoping the weather cooperates this week so I can do what I need to do.

I also had to replace the hubs on my trailer.  I don't have a spare tire for the trailer, but we have a bunch of like new wheels & tires and axles at work that we remove from diesel powered air compressors.  They're just stacked up doing nothing so I snagged a couple of wheels & tires and an axle this week.  The bolt pattern on the wheels was different than the hubs on my trailer (which I had a sneaking suspicion they would be), so I swapped hubs with the axle I snagged and installed the new wheels & tires.  Now I just have to grab one more wheel & tire combo and I'll have a spare that fits.

I've only ever trailered a bike once because a friend of mine wanted to take his camper.  I prefer to ride.  I love long bike trips.  If it was just me I would do it in a heart beat.  But, It'll be worth the haul to meet some of you and go for a ride in the Rockies.

Accuweather seems to be forcasting afternoon rain and thunderstorms every day during travel window there and surprisingly they changed Tuesday's outlook to be sunny.  Daily temps in high 70s and low 80s .

They currently have a severe storm headed that way with dime-sized hail and heavy downpours with locallized flooding expected in some areas.

That would not be fun to ride into or experience.

Our route, via the Weather Channel, looks to be mostly dry but hot. That'd work out OK by me. This weekend going over everything, oil change, checks and balances, get ready for a ride!

Danny - are you going to share that personal info you talked about via Email or DM? Real name, number, etc. Just in case?

Soooooooo Looking forward to this. Haven't had a vacay in a while.

David,

That's pretty much our July and August. Ride early and dodge the afternoon rain. Hail is/can be a distinct possibility. Full face helmets can be effective. Not many places to pull over for cover on the Plains.

Looks like I be running the cylinders of theK2 I wrecked in 75..
The one with a few broken fins, so we broke the rest off on one side!
Then one day I needed them  saved the day!
Now decades later they may save the day again. ....  be ugly fast I hope, stuffing forged TRW,s in with hi compression.

Got the bags on, cables and brake hoses replaced, tach face replaced. Bracket fabbed up for the seat. Need to install the new rotor and pads, new tires and new chain. Still hope to fit the Hondaline fairing, but it isn't looking good, may have to go with the windshield I used in 2011.

Good idea Wilbur. OR use a shipping company like Federal. MUCH cheaper than I anticipated. Logistically easy too. Door to door. I have a bike enroute from a Ft Lauderdale museum and with my AMA discount it is only costing $605 for 2000 miles. Would've been a nice ride but I can't do that to a 1979 bike with only 3300 miles  ;)

I am extending an offer to you guys coming westward or returning eastward. If you need a place to overnight you are welcome at my place going or coming. It is 370 miles from my place in Colorado Springs to Dolores ie so another day's ride. Bring a sleeping bag as it could be floor space in a newly finished and carpeted cooler basement. And you can't get in the hot tub without a shower and trunks  ;) CB650/Terry and crew and I will be leaving out Tuesday morning probably.
