CB550 returning original speedo and tach help needed
« on: August 22, 2016, 07:33:51 PM »
Hello all:  I know many of you have the answer to this question.  I am putting the original speedo and tach back on my beloved CB550 Dash.  Now the question is what do I need to connect the tach back up.  I see the opening where the cable goes (I have the cable) but there must be a holder/clippy thing/ that keeps it in place once it goes into its position on the bike engine...
Can anyone let me know what goes there?  Where I get it?  Links directly to what I need are always appreciated ;)
Thank you gentleman.

It's just inserted and then held in with a screw, maybe someone has a photo of it for you..

Yeah, there is the plug, the drive gear, o-ring, and a pair of set screws.

Should be able to find em on the valve cover microfiche

Like bombermann said there are 2 pieces besides the cable, the drive gear and a housing it fits in that attaches to the rocker cover.

If you're asking if the cable is held in place further up from where it mounts, there should be a little hook under the tank off of the frame. But yeah, the head of the cable  is mounted with a screw and o-ring into the drive.

Drive gears are fragile and frequently break. Didn't see any on fleabay. I might be able to snag one from the boneyard next time I go down, likely next week.

the housing can also be found new at cmsnl and the likes, for stupendous money.

Mooshie,

I've got a gear but no housing.
