Throttle sticks and is harder when fully warm?
« on: August 26, 2016, 12:34:07 PM »
Bike is a freshly rebuilt 1973 CB750k. I'm having this issue and I'm scratching my head. Visually there is nothing impeding the throttle cables or the carbs themselves. The cables have no tight bends whatsoever. The throttle snaps shut perfectly when cold or when cooling down. But after riding for 20 minutes or so the throttle will stick and I'll need to push it forward to close it fully. I cannot figure out why. The cables are brand new and lubed, and it works amazingly cold. Anyone have any ideas or similar problems?

Are you running fuel system cleaner?

I had a (name redacted) cleaner leave all the moving parts in my 550 carbs so clean the throttle slides got bogged down with friction.  Made trouble with the float needles too :o

A little bit of sea foam. I've used this stuff before on quads and dirtbike carbs with no issue. Hmm. I put 5 treated gallons into it, I must've burned some it by now. Should I just keep topping it off with plain premium or am I better of draining it and starting from scratch?

This probably isn't it since everything is fine when cold, but, just to rule it out - that set screw underneath the throttle - plenty loose? Not falling-out loose, but could it somehow be binding your twist at the bar?

Checked that already, it's plenty loose. I've checked almost everything and still can't figure it out unless it is fuel related. Has anyone else had these problems?

There shouldn't be enough heat around the carbs to cause parts to swell and stick...right?  Right.

Bottom line, you've got a binding issue.  Find it, Fix it.

Or an excellent Game of Trolls.
