Gas tank trim

Does anyone know how many of the little clips per side are used to attach the bottom tank trim on a '71 K1 750? I know the "77-'78 tanks require 5 per side. I read somewhere that the older tanks take fewer clips. Am I right? Thanks for the info ahead of time.

My K1 has 4 per side. One in the back, one in the middle and two towards the front.

K1 tank use only tabs which are welded underside (you can bend them), no clips. K7, K8 tank has no tabs only clips.
