Headlight went dim...
« on: August 29, 2016, 05:16:29 PM »
Hey guys,

I took my '74 CB750 out last night and after about an hour of cruising the strip/beach and on my way home the headlight went dim. It was running and working fine and right before I turned onto my street the light output went to about half. I originally thought I had hit the switch to the low beam accidentally but after switching back and forth a few times between the high and low setting the light is still extremely dim.

Any ideas on what to look for or where to start on my search to get the headlight back up to 100%...? Just FYI, new battery and she is holding a charge and sits at 13v+ at idle and goes up with revs. I don't think it's a charging issue. Thanks in advance!

My guess is a dirty or nearly broken connector.  Maybe something wrong in the hi / lo beam switch.  Basically, you have a high resistance somewhere that is limiting current to the headlight and you will likely find that it has gotten hot there and melted it's surroundings.

 Check the ground wire too.
