new nuts and bolts
« on: August 28, 2016, 06:05:54 PM »
Where can I purchase in bulk, metric acorn nuts, grade 8 + bolts and regular metric nuts, washers etc etc?

Sick of looking for just that one nut in a pail full of both metric and standard, if you know what I mean.  :o

thanks,
michel

Another source.

They have a lot of odd-ball stuff if you can't find it at boltdepot.
Do you have a copy of the Honda Shop Manual or Parts List for your bike? Get one here:

What you may find is that the fasteners you get from these guys are not JIS, and will have larger heads for a given diameter bolt than stock. You may not care, but in a few locations they may not fit so well, and they will stand out visually.

I just posted about this in another thread, but I prefer to clean and then replate the original fasteners. I also went to a nearby junkyard last year, bought three BUCKETS of old Japanese fasteners from them for $25, spent one evening cleaning them, then spent $110 at my plater having them barrel plated. Finally I sorted them into a few bolt boxes I got from HF for $15 ea.

So for $200 and a couple of evenings' time invested I now I have a frankly enormous selection of new-looking JIS fasteners I dip into as needed, and it has been priceless at times.

Brother picked some up to do a set of Mikuni carbs and said they are dead on copies of the originals.

Yeah,
I checked both of them out and found that none have a special high profile cap nut,
with a "cut" half way up so the rachet can turn the nut at a 30-40 degree angle.
I'm thinking I'll have to go to Honda shop for it.
You can not turn the high profile cap nuts with a wrench. >:(
