Choke wont work after needle adjustment
« on: September 07, 2016, 08:50:16 AM »
Hi guys

Since adjusting my needle height on my cb400f the choke has stopped working. When I now have the choke on from cold starts it does nothing in fact it works the opposite when it's on the bike won't start and when it's off the bike will start but I have to give it a few goods kicks to get it going from a cold start. Anyone shed some light on why it's doing this? Have I adjusted something I shouldn't of ?

Thanks

Did you verify that the choke lever is actually turning the plates closed?
Adjusting needle clip position has no effect on the idle circuit/pilot jet.  Look elsewhere.

Did you mess up your slide height when making needle adjustments?  revisit a bench sync.
They need to be down when the idle screw is turned full out.  If good, turn them IN 1 full turn from touching for your first start.
They need to raise, slightly, when the choke is applied (your 400F carb choke works like a fast idle cam for easier starts)

Yep the choke lever is actuating the plates closed and open.
