Topic: Is this cam toast?

 Three of the four lobes on my CL350 cam have pitting, one pretty badly. One of the rockers does as well. Is this cam toast?

you could get it hard welded but unless its a special cam it would be better and cheaper to find another .
im surprised you asked the question to be honest

 Yeah, when I saw the pics in close up it was pretty obvious. Especially the first one. The other two I can't even really snag a fingernail on.

If you are stuck, or waiting to find a racing cam..
After you get over the shock of that costing 1.5 x what a cam for a 4 costs..
I would blocksand it to clean it up.....

 You know, even the factory manual says to use a soap stone to clean up any imperfections. That's so weird to hear, to me.

On really old stuff, from the thirties and older, parts are often like that...and still expensive, if they are halfway like that..
 So it often ends up getting used while you try to find better..
My buddy that has many 1902-1930 bikes said it best..
 ....its oil rentention marks.....!!
I know early 350 cams and rockers are tough to find but later should be cheap.

If you hardweld the cam you will have to hardweld the rovckers or they will be toast too in no time, even if $$ NOS new units will get ruined

You may be able to send it to Megacycle and have them both repair it and 'pep it up' a bit: the pre-1972 cams are higher RPM cams than the post-1971 versions, too. But, the later ones tour with 2 aboard MUCH more easily!
