Paint Codes for Candy Gold?
« on: August 30, 2016, 06:38:43 AM »
I've looked in the tech section and there's a great write up on Sunrise Orange, but I can't seem to find the paint codes for Candy Gold.

I understand there are 2 versions. Both likely use a silver or gold base, then candy, then clear. I think the one I want uses a silver base.

Does anyone know the code for the colour of the gold? I don't have an example I can take to the paint shop for them to match.

I'm also in Canada so can't have anything shipped from the US or abroad.

The color codes are listed in the first few pages of the Parts List of a specific model. They'r all here: http://www.honda4fun.com/ > Materiale > Parts List and select the model.

Thanks... I looked up the K1 as suggested and the code for Candy Gold is listed as "CQ".

Do you think there's anything else I need for a specific paint supplier?

I ran a Duplicolor Metalcast in Candy Yellow rattle can on my CL100.  Looked pretty good and it needed the Metalcast Silver as the base coat under the yellow.

Not bad for the price. You can see samples of the color on the Duplicolor Metalcast web site.

Their paint code MC202 is what I used for this shade of yellow.

I have some pictures of my 72 Honda CL100 on my home computer and will try to post the picture tonight. I only needed to paint a new Thailand - sourced side cover, not the whole bike.  But the MC202 code matched the existing OEM Honda Candy Yellow on the fuel tank very nicely.

I cannot find this post on a regular computer so that I can post a picture of my painted side cover. The internal site search function is down and the tip for searching with Google also does not turn up this post. It finds other about Candy Gold but not this one.

Silver base
Metal flake
Candy Orange
Clear coat

All sourced in Aus. Same problem as Canada for shipping.
I don't have all the details, they are at home.
There is a recipe/instruction sheet floating around online.
That is what I used.

I'm still having trouble sourcing the codes for Candy Gold in Canada.

UreKem sells a combination, (base and candy) that looks pretty good, as does the Coatings Store, but none will ship to Canada.

Any one know the codes for the 2 part base and candy from any retailer in Canada?

I looked on a site that sells oem Honda parts and they give a Honda code # for "Candy Gold Custom" which is that 3-step orig. equip. color gold that Honda uses;the code is "Y2CC" but I'm not sure if that is only oem Honda paint from Honda or if you can even get it from Honda for a 40+ yr. old bike.I'm just not sure it applies to what you need.
CycleRanger posted some paint professional 's and i've only had limited experience w/ one(Randy Marble)but the small job he did for me wasn't too impressive.. it wouldn't hurt to see if some of them will sell paint to you if you are willing to attempt the 3-step process for the first time..

Hello,

The link below is a set of two pictures of my 1972 Candy Yellow CL100 side covers painted in the MC202 shade of yellow using the Duplicolor Metalcast paint.  One is the original paint with the new paint next to it.  The other is the newly painted cover mounted on the bike.  The new paint did not initially have as much shine but some Turtle Wax took care of that.  Overall, I'm quite happy with it for a bike that is a rider and not a museum piece.

I like it.

Not quite gold enough for my build, but very nice!

A Sherwin Williams paint rep shot my candy blue green with a paint gun and it showed it to be 69-70 Honda candy blue green..they also got a correct color for candy ruby red,  they do have the mixes in their data base. I'd bet they have gold also.

Candy Gold: the K0 and K1 used Y2C as a paint can code and CQ at the end of the part number.

Candy Gold Custom: the K2 used Y2C-C as a paint can code and LX at the end of the part number.
