Cam Chain Tensioner
« on: September 01, 2016, 05:14:54 PM »
I ordered a complete cam chain tensioner from Yamiya for my 69 K0 and the part numbers say that everything is correct, but the roller is much bigger. Attached pic shows the new one on the left and the one that came out of the engine on the right. Is this a problem?

Don't have the answer but seeing if I am going to learn something new about early verses newer etc..  That is a big size difference, any sign the old one had been ground down from use or lots of debris in the oil pan ? Sure an early guru will fill us in.

The old one doesnt look that bad but it is definately smaller. I  have been looking at the Honda shop manual -old green one; and on page 30 it shows the tensioner with the big wheel, so now I am really confused. I dont know the history of the engine so maybe the small one was a PO mistake?

It does look odd. Think the engine had been opened up before ?

I just looks ground down to me.

The grooves are in the right place, the central hole the same diameter.

.....Is this a problem?

The problem was in your engine. Your original parts are both wasted. Something pretty bad going on there.
Never seen rollers that worn. As bad as those look, I would be suspect of everything in that motor.
Especially, the cam chain, camshaft sprocket, and possibly the cam sprocket on the crankshaft.
For sure the oil pump and all oil galleys need to be inspected/repaired/replaced.

Engine was completely disassembled. Bored out, new valves, all chains, seals.
